摘要:
This study reports data from a comprehensive survey of physical therapists working in early intervention. The survey compared in-class and out-of-class service delivery models. The purposes of the study were to determine (a) the state of typical practice among therapists, (b) therapists' perceptions of ideal service delivery practices, (c) the variables that predict the use of integrated practices, and (d) characteristics of physical therapy practices that make this discipline different from other early intervention disciplines. Three hundred eleven pediatric physical therapists in early intervention responded to a survey regarding their perceptions of their typical practice and ideal practice patterns. Therapists chose the in-class, out-of-class, or a combined model, depending on the characteristics of the child, the specific service to be provided, and the program. In typical practice, the in-class model was the choice more often than the out-of-class model. Therapists' perceptions of ideal practice suggested a desire for greater use of an in-class model. Physical therapists are less likely to choose an in-class model than occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, or special educators. This difference may be related to the physical nature of the activities associated with physical therapy

摘要:
The effectiveness of parental collaboration in developing a home program for children with disabilities was examined. Eighteen children with visual and motor deficits (aged 3–1 3 years) and their families were randomly assigned to two groups. Ten families in the parental collaboration group (PC) collaborated with the investigator in the family's home to formulate a home program. Eight families in the comparison group (NPC) received a “therapist-prescribed” home program, taught to one parent at the child's school. Compliance with the 6-week home program was measured using a daily log kept by the parents. In examining the results it was indicated that the mean compliance was 80.3% for the PC group and 77.5% for the NPC group, a difference that was not significant. In both groups, compliance levels decreased over time, however, the trend was not significant for either group. Correlation statistics indicated a significant positive relationship between compliance and both Family Resource Scale scores and levels of gross motor goal attainment. The correlation between age of the child and compliance was not significant. The similarities in home program activities for each group and the difficulty some families had with the collaboration process may have influenced the results. Relatively high compliance scores may be attributed to the families' interest in doing a home program as well as the method used to report compliance. (Pediatr Phys Ther 1995;7:59–64)

摘要:
The purpose of this study was to describe the performance of healthy, full-term 6-month-old infants on the Movement Assessment of Infants (MAI). Fifty-seven full-term infants comprised the sample. The infants were screened for risk factors, assessed on the MAI, and followed-up at a minimum age of 15 months. Frequency distributions of scores for each of the 65 items on the MAI were reported and preliminary risk scores for each test item were determined. Results included identification of those motor behaviors which were both typical and infrequent for 6-month-old infants with normal motor outcomes, and the variability of motor performance was documented across subjects. Implications of findings for clinicians involved in neuromotor assessment were discussed
