摘要:
Sublimation is a unit operation that could receive much greater attention in the future as a purification method. From a frequent batch process used for simple separation of a desired volatile constituent from a nonvolatile impurity, sublimation can progress to continuous, multistage methods for fractionating materials of differing volatility on a large industrial scale. This will be particularly important for materials that decompose at temperatures below the melting point and that have low solubilities in common solvents. More experimental information, particularly as regards the factors influencing the condensation of solids from the vapor, would be of value in design of equipment.

摘要:
The effect of molecular association upon gel-permeation chromatographic separations is examined. Application of a previously established GPC elution-volume/molar-volume relationship to the study of solvent/solute interactions is discussed. The use of such interactions to improve fractionating ability of GPC columns is described. Application of the GPC technique to fundamental studies of forces involved in intermolecular association is suggested.

摘要:
Frequency-response techniques are developed for the backflow cell model as applied to countercurrent two-phase flow processes with exchange of a single solute. Experimental outlet-gas response curves have been obtained for step injection of tracer gas into the air inlet of a six-inch packed bubble column with different countercurrent flow rates of water. Numerical Fourier transformation of these curves yields frequency-response characteristics that are compared with those of the backflow cell model. On this basis, the backflow cell model adequately simulates the dynamics of the system.

摘要:
Urinary Bence-Jones proteins from three different patients and two preparations of light chains derived from normal, pooled human IgG either by oxidative sulfitolysis or reduction/alkylation were subjected to isoelectric separation in a vertical column containing a combined pH and density gradient. The Bence-Jones proteins could be shown to be heterogeneous in pH gradients covering 0.5 to 7 pH units. In narrow pH gradients the resolving power was improved. In pH gradients covering the range of pH 3–10 and in the presence of 5Murea the light-chain preparations could be partially resolved into the bands well known from gel electrophoresis.

摘要:
Laminae column foaming is a special type of column foaming (foam separation). The foam is degraded to fast-moving, nearly planar laminae, which are rinsed by reflux. The method is distinguished by a simple technique, quick establishment of the steady state, and the possibility of working even with low-foaming solutions and handling small quantities of substances. The uncomplicated surface formation and laminae/wall system enable the principles of foam separation to be studied. The phenomena of laminae column foaming are described, as are types of laminae producers, countercurrent columns, and laminae destroyers, and a complete apparatus with circulating gas. Column foaming is compared with column distillation and column crystallization, and its place in the system of column separation methods is discussed.

摘要:
Tropical plants of the familyFlacourtiaceaeproduce seeds whose lipid constituents are rich in cyclopentenyl fatty acids (1). The major naturally occurring acids of this type are hydnocarpic (11-(2-cyclo-penten-1-yl)-undecanoic), chaulmoogric (13-(2-cyclopenten-1-yl)-tridecanoic), and gorlic (13-(2-cyclopenten-1-yl)-6-tridecenoic) acids.
