摘要:
ABSTRACTDifferent approaches to modelling the impact of transport infrastructure investment on regional economic development are examined, including production function and economic potential approaches. An integrated modelling approach involving both transport costs and models of regional and interregional economic structure is advocated. This approach is applied to the question of forecasting the regional economic effects of the Danish Great Belt link, a major Danish infrastructure investment, due to open in 1997. These effects arc shown to be modest.

摘要:
ABSTRACTEconomic reforms in Eastern Europe and Eastern Europe's integration into the world economy are supposed to induce fundamental changes into European trade patterns. This will affect regions in the EU differently, depending an location and specialisation. The article quantifies the impact of changing trade flows on EU regional manufacturing. Estimates are based on comparative static simulations, using an empirically calibrated computable partial equilibrium model of interregional trade. The spatial EU output pattern under status‐quo conditions is compared with an optimistic “successful reform scenario”. The article explains the model structure and its calibration, and presents results for 13 manufacturing indus

摘要:
ABSTRACTSheppard et al (1992) introduced a spatial interdependent markets model for a single commodity and derived existence and stability properties of sales and prices at equilibrium under two price adjustment mechanisms and two profit‐seeking scenarios. This paper explores the spatial properties of the sales and price configurations. Equilibrium prices are given two interpretations that relate to two different aspects of inter‐market consumer flows for the purpose of purchasing the commodity. Subsequently the paper describes how sales and prices can be separated into an element reflectinglocational advantagewhich arises from the overlapping of juxtaposed consumer choice sets of different sizes and an element reflectingmarket interactionwhich arises because of consumer sensitivity to price differences between sites within their choice set. Configurations of sales and prices are generated explicitly for certain spatial systems. The two profit objectives lead to strikingly different spatial price distributions. Equilibrium prices and sales under both profit objectives appear to be quite closely tied to the prices and sales that are generated by the choice set structure (locational advantage) after smoothing by a local scale spatial operator. The relationships between prices and sales due to locational advantage and prices and sales at equilibrium are analy

摘要:
ABSTRACTThis paper addresses the effect of liberalisation and transformation in Eastern Europe on international trade flows between specific West and East European countries belonging to the Rhine‐Main‐Danube area. The discussion is focused on volume and direction of trade effects using a simple, but evidently robust model of bilateral trade flows. The estimates are naturally subject to a great range of uncertainty with respect to the likely developments in each of the countries concerned. The numbers might end up wide of the mark in the long term, but we think they are useful nonetheless in helping to frame the issues and focus thinking on the potential impact. The overall trade volumes tend to expand primarily as a result of a rise in living standards and output levels, and increase the openess of the Eastern European countries. Because any increase in income will take time, the global trade import will be spread over a number of years. The collapse of COMECON trading arrangements and the increasing influence of market forces in the Eastern European countries is likely to lead to a reorientation of these countries' trade away from each other and towards Western European mark

摘要:
ABSTRACTIn a location‐allocation system, it is necessary to obtain not only an efficient set of facility locations, but also an efficient relationship among the catchment areas. This is especially important in services that are hierarchical in nature and where there is a strung relationship between the different levels. In seeking an effective relation among the different levels, all the areas assigned to a particular facility at one hierarchical level should belong to one and the same district in the next level. This property leads to a “coherent” districting structure. In this paper the concept of coherence is introduced within a network location covering framework: the Coherent Covering Location Problem locates two hierarchical facility levels by maximizing the coverage while ensuring coherence. Adaptations of the model to different location patterns and computational experience are pro
