After a brief discussion of the general features and kinematics of inclusive processes, a review is given of recent work in the study of inclusive reactions. Special emphasis is placed on the applications of Regge phenomenology suggested by Mueller's optical theorem analog for single‐particle spectra.

摘要:
Selected (almost exclusively bubble chamber) experiments relating to scaling, limiting fragmentation, and factorization are briefly reviewed. Special attention is paid to exotic versus non‐exotic (in the abcsense) reactions. Also discussed are experiments suggesting non‐limiting behavior for KKproduction below 30 GeV and for cosmic ray interactions above 10 TeV. Observation of isotropic &pgr;±and Koproduction with Bose‐Einstein energy distributions and a common “temperature” equal to the pion mass is reported.

The processa + E → a + E, whereEis an exotic baryon, is relevant to the inclusive reactiona + b → c + X, withErepresenting the (cb) system. The theorem proves that an amplitude which vanishes when (aE) is exotic and which also vanishes for exotic exchanges in the (aa) channel must vanishfor any octet meson a, even when (aE) is not exotic. Thus in a kinematic region where the inclusive reaction is described by coupling the conventional Regge trajectories to the (aa) channel and exotic exchanges are forbidden, an amplitude which vanishes when (abc) is exotic will also vanish when (bc) is exotic and (abc) is not exotic; i.e. whenever the fragmentation vertexb → cinvolves an exotic exchange.The assumption that certain “exotic” amplitudes vanish in inclusive reactions1has been shown to lead under certain reasonable assumptions to the conclusions that certain other amplitudes must also vanish, even though they are not normally considered exotic.2The exact implications and the validity of this result have been questioned. We present here a theorem which provides a concise and systematic statement of which nonexotic amplitudes must also vanish when the criterion of Chanet alis assumed.1We do not enter into the dynamical discussion of which criterion of exoticity is the proper one to use for inclusive reactions. This is a matter to be settled by experiment.

摘要:
Unlike the study of two‐body scattering processes, analysis of multiparticle phenomena will always involve a subjective element: the selection from a vast amount of primary data of some small subsample comprehensible to the human mind. Therefore diverse methods of viewing the primary data are of crucial importance. In pursuit of this goal we suggest light‐cone variables and rapidity as useful variables, and use of 3‐dimensional models for analyses of multibody events. We also discuss a possible analogue to statistical mechanics and the theory of liquids invented by Feynman and formally developed by Mueller which may be applicable to multiparticle phenomenology.

摘要:
The production cross sections of negative pions by relativistic deuterium nuclei have been measured. The energy of secondary pions exceeded the kinematic boundary of the pion production by a single nucleon from deuteron. It has been obtained that the ratio of the differential cross sections of the pion production by deuterons and protons, at the angle 0°,d2&sgr;dd&Ogr;dp/d2&sgr;pd&Ogr;dpat equal P/Pmax, is 0.05 and, within the limits of errors, does not depend on the energy of incident particles and pions produced.
