摘要:
Statistical process control methods for a process with multiple streams are developed and compared to traditional solutions. New methods maintain the simplicity of the group control chart while improving on traditional limitations. A model that allows correlation between the streams is described and a simple control strategy is recommended. Performance comparisons are provided.

摘要:
People fit models to data for the purpose of screening out unimportant variables, or for quantifying the effects of important variables, or for just approximating the shape of a response surface. In mixture experiments containing other factors such as process variables and/or the amount of the mixture, the typical model-fitting strategy employed is to fit a combined model containing terms in the mixture components only along with terms involving crossproducts between the mixture components and the other factors. Such a model form allows one to measure the blending properties of the mixture components and to determine if the blending properties differ when changing the settings of the process variables and/or the amount of the mixture. The fitted model is assessed for adequacy of fit and, if found to be adequate, quite often the model is then used to generate contour plots of the predicted mixture surfaces at the settings of the other factors for display and interpretation purposes. In constrained-region mixture experiments, particularly when other factors (process variables or the amount of the mixture) are present, potential pitfalls await the unsuspecting model-builder. This paper discusses some of the potential pitfalls and illustrates them using two examples taken from the literature. Listed at the end of the paper are some general recommendations for designing experiments and fitting models to data from mixture experiments containing other factors.

摘要:
Vining and Myers adapted the dual response approach to achieve the goals of Taguchi's philosophy. This excellent approach contains some deficiencies that will be highlighted in this paper. A more satisfactory and substantially simpler optimization procedure on a dual response approach is proposed that allows more general response models to be entertained in reality. The new method is demonstrated using the example given in Vining and Myers in which it leads to a solution with 25% smaller mean square error.

摘要:
Canonical analysis is hard to explain because it involves the difficult concepts of eigenvalue and eigenvector. In this note, I describe an approach that I have found to be effective in overcoming these difficulties which uses the new concept of an eigenangleto explain eigenanalysis.

摘要:
Two factors are related when one factor's desirable range depends on the level of another factor. For example, in a chemical reaction, the desirable reaction-time range shifts downward as temperature increases. This is reflected in the experimental design by choosing levels of one factor that depend on the level of the other factor. Taguchi refers to this technique assliding levelsand justifies it by rationales of bad region avoidance and interaction elimination. We explore these rationales and their implications. In particular, we point out problems with Taguchi's analysis strategy which is based on the latter rationale. We propose an alternative analysis method and demonstrate it by reanalyzing three documented experiments; the reanalysis provides new insight about their respective processes. Finally, using the bad region avoidance rationale, we discuss alternative experimental designs.

摘要:
We present a FORTRAN program that can be used to determine the economic, statistical, or economic-statistical design of a fraction defective or defects per unit chart. In the economic design approach, the general Lorenzen-Vance cost function is minimized. In statistical design, we find designs which meet constraints on average run length while in control and while in a variety of out-of-control states. Economic-statistical designs are based on Saniga's approach, which minimizes the cost function subject to statistical constraints.

摘要:
This paper presents a BASIC computer program which can assist a user in designing a two-sidedX̄control chart with adaptive features such as adaptive sample sizes, adaptive sampling intervals, or combined adaptive sample sizes and sampling intervals. The program generates the threshold limit to switch the adaptive design parameters, the mean false alarm rate, and the out-of-control average time to signal an off-target process for various magnitude of shifts as specified by the user.
