As the effect of delegated budgets begins to bite, this kind of service will find itself weighed against other priorities. Jean McGregor was privileged to visit Greece as part of a European Community initiative. The particular orientation of this visit was the integration of handicapped pupils. Jean McGregor sets this against the rich historical background of the country and examines particular developments at primary school level. A comparison is drawn with provision in the United Kingdom and she notes that strenuous attempts must be made in both countries to resist the marginalisation of such pupils.

In Volume 7 Number 2 of this journal Mel Ainscow and Susan Hart introduced us to collaborative training. Here Catherine Clark takes this further and describes the specific technique of teacher narrative. She illustrates this with an example deployed on a course for teachers concerned with special educational needs. Her conclusion is that, in contemporary circumstances, course leaders will need to shift their focus from straightforward information dissemination to that of equal partnership.
