Intra‐venous pyelographic studies were carried out at various times after delivery in 315 cases of Severe Pre‐Eclamptic Toxaemia/Eclampsia. Abnormal findings were recorded in 24 cases. — an incidence of 7.6 per cent. Three radiological signs of fetal death are described with illustrative cases. Spaiding's sign appears to be most reliable between the 28th and the 36th week of pregnancy. Its drawback lies in the occasional marked overriding cast on the radiograph by a vertical disalignment of only 0.5 cm. in the fetal skull. Most investigators, accept 2 cm. overlapping as Spalding positive although a false positive could still be remotely possible. Intrafetal gas is an unequivocal sign of fetal death provided it can be conclusively differentiated from maternal gas, shadows. This sign would only occur late in pregnancy. The hypcrflexion sign may be simulated in oligohydramnios and in situations when the uterus goes into continuous tonic contractions. It can only be regarded as conclusive when fetal heart sounds are not detectable.

A report of the double‐blind study of the effects of oral methyl ergometrine maleate (Methergin) on bleeding post JUD insertion. The result of 38 cases receiving the Methergin and 46 cases receiving placebo tablets were compared. Papanicolaou staining of 100 smears from vaginal discharge and serous fluid fixed by hairspray showed satisfactory results as compared with that of 100 smears fixed in 95% ethanol and the other 200 smears, fixed in 95% ethanol and ether. The method in the use of hairspray as fixative for cytological preparation is simple, economical and convenient for mailing slides to the cytological laboratory.
