摘要:
This paper discusses the problem of understanding and measuring quality in complex systems which include hardware and software. Using general systems concepts, a schematic model of quality is proposed and its use illustrated. The paper concludes by discussion of the problems involved with the use of the schematic model in developing the specific quality models required in the software and systems industry.

摘要:
To support the evolutionary development of information systems in decentralised organisations new tools and ways of organising information systems activities are required. A communications environment which enables co-operation and co-ordination between separate sub-units of an organisation is proposed. This environment, which is called a distributed decision making (DDM) system, allows associations between groups to be built up horizontally rather than by hierarchical structuring or centralised control. The DDM system software allows separate information systems components to be developed in parallel by different groups, and provides for the linking of these applications at execution time. A prototype DDM system and experience with using this system are described. It is a flexible and low-cost approach to the development ofad hocsystems such as decision support systems.

摘要:
Project management is a topic which occurs on an increasing number of college and university courses in engineering and computing. Inspection of syllabuses will reveal the same tools and techniques being covered in both ‘hard’ engineering disciplines (such as mechanical engineering) and ‘soft’ engineering (such as computing science). This paper describes those tools and techniques and looks at the difficulties in applying them successfully to projects concerned with building computer-based information systems.

摘要:
In this paper, a model for representing and analysing the design of a software system is proposed. The scheme is based on Petri net formalism and allows representation of both control and data flows in an integrated manner. Both the structure and the behaviour of the system can be modelled using this scheme. Analysis and verification of some behavioural properties provide a certain degree of design validation prior to implementation.
