摘要:
First it is demonstrated that through stepwise pergression of a constant analysing interval p throughout a sine the period T can be calculated even if p is not an integer multiple of T. The key is the fact that the two harmonics n=n1=[r] and n= n2=[r]+l produce parallel regression lines in the phase diagram with the standardized slope r=p:T. Through an iterated second analysis with an integer multiple of T as analysing interval the three sine parameters can be accurately calculated with the aid of the amplitude and phase diagrams. But it is also demonstrated that often the iteration of the analysis can be avoided.

In previous papers (Poulakos and Tritakis, 1972; Tritakis, 1974) based on the so‐called areas index la of the solar activity introduced by Xanthakis (1969, 1970) we had defined some empirico‐statistical relations among basic parameters of the solar cycles No. 8–20, such as the time of rise, the period, the maximum values of the areas index la, the relative sunspot numbers, etc.

摘要:
Sexually mature male and femaleRana esculentaL. were captured in their natural habitat in six phases of the annual cycle. Nuclear volumes in APOA cells were found to fluctuate distinctly in the course of the year. In both sexes nuclear volumes were maximal in the phases preceding the breeding season (IIIrd decade of January, and 1st decade of April), and minimal throughout the phases of active life (IIIrd decade of May, IInd decade of July, and 1st decade of September). No aldehydefuchsin or Gomori‐positive material was found in the APOA perikaryons.

摘要:
The activity of eight male striped shore crabsPachygrapsus crassipeswas recorded for 33 days in a LD 12:12 cycle with light on from 6:00 h to 18:00 h. All eight crabs displayed an overt semi‐diurnal tidal rhythm for the entire recording period, with peak activity occurring two hours after each high tide. In all crabs a 24‐h activity component was also expressed, with activity reaching a maximum 2–5 h after light‐off. This activity pattern was presumed to be of adaptive significance, allowing the organisms to remain active longer during the night hours in search for food when uncovered by the ebbing tide than in the daytime when uncovered due to predatory pressure. It was noted that while the tidal rhythm displayed an average 12.4‐h periodicity, there appeared to be a correlation between activity and the precise time of local high tide which occurred at times as little as 20 min and as much as two hours later each solar day. Two hypotheses regarding the underlying clock timing the observed rhythms were discussed, that of an internal oscillatory mechanism and, second, a response of the organism to pervasive subtle geophysical cycles.
