摘要:
From a general theory of drying granular porous media, we have constructed a simplified theory that consists of a set of coupled, volume-averaged transport equations for the temperature and the saturation. The theory incorporates the liquid and vapor phase continuity equations, combines the liquid, solid and vapor phase thermal energy equations into a single temperature equation and makes use of Darcy's law for the liquid phase to account for moisture transport owing to capillary action. By purely qualitative reasoning, one can show that combined heat and mass transfer theories of drying cannot provide a complete theoretical explanation of drying phenomena and a detailed comparison between theory and experiment supports this point of view. Speculation concerning the logical course of subsequent theoretical studies is provided.

摘要:
The mass, momentum and energy exchange between the droplets and particles and the drying medium in a spray dryer is a complex process. One approach to modeling this process is to apply the particle-sourcein- cell model in which the droplets and particles are regarded as sources of mass, momentum and energy to the conveying gas flow. This mode1 is app1ied to a counter-current spray dryer. The results show the strong interaction between the droplet/particle and gas flow fields. The calculations show the inadequacy of predictions in which the exchange between phases is ignored.

摘要:
Recent tests by the U.S. Bureau of Mines have demonstrated the effectiveness of electrokinetic dewatering to consolidate a variety of coal and mineral slimes. Material properties and application methods that affect performance are briefly reviewed, and some operating and proposed field installations are described. Application of the method to other slimes and sludges can best be determined through laboratory testing, but certain physical properties can be helpful predictors of responsiveness.

摘要:
Small particles of Douglas fir of characteristic size 0.2 to 1cm have been dried by flowing the wood particles in vitiated air in a long vertical tube. Drying rate, dM/dt, was determined by measuring the increasing humidity of the transporting gas flow, and by measuring the absolute velocity of the particles by a radioactive isotope tagging method. Sawdusts of three sizes and flakes were examined. Moisture content (dry basis) was varied from approximately 2 to 125%. Most of the results were obtained for gas temperatures between 350 and 550 K.

摘要:
This paper describes techniques that have been developed for accurately measuring the surface temperature of drying lumber using a radiation thermometer, and interior temperatures at various depths using 30 gauge thermocouples. Methods for calculating heat transfer coefficients during the drying of lumber are also described. Experimental results, showing surface and interior temperatures, and moisture content, as functions of drying time are presented.

摘要:
A need exists for a simple device to measure the psychrometric properties of high temperature and high humidity air. To meet this need, a small laboratory double-wick psychrometer was developed and tested which showed good results to 175°C dry bulb temperature and 100°C wet bulb temperature. Based on the results of the laboratory unit, a portable prototype psychrometric system was designed and built. The overall design provided quick measurement and indication of wet bulb temperature, dry bulb temperature, humidity, and enthalpy of a high temperature air stream.
