Expression processes under variable-pressure condition are analyzed in view of the flow through compressible porous media. It has been demonstrated that the expression mechanism of slurry consists of two flow phenomena and these types of phenomena can be analyzed first by filtration theory and second by the so-called consolidation theory.

An experimental system has been designed and constructed to investigate the drying rate, temperature and moisture profiles developed within food materials during forced convective air drying. The moisture profile was determined by employing the technique of gamma ray densitometry, and embedded thermocouples were used to sense temperature at different locations. The overall drying rate was measured using an electronic balance. A microcomputer and a computer front end were implemented for data acquisitionand experimental control. Sample temperature and moisture profiles measured during drying are presented as a function of both drying time and the distance to the surface of the specimen. Both profiles described the drying phenomena inside the sample. The evaporation front was observed in a narrow region of the apple specimen, this front moved into the sample as drying progressed. The amount of apple shrinkage was determined to be linearly related to the distance which the evaporation front had recededfrom the initial surface.

Drying of shredded coconut is usually carried out commercially in order to facilitate storage over reasonable periods of time and to obtain advantages of reduction of weight and volume in transport and packaging. Fluidised bed drying of materials is generally accepted to be an efficient method of drying. Experiments were carried out to investigate the behaviour of fluidisation of shreddet coconut at various moisture contents. The pressure drop was measured across random packings of shredded coconut. It is seen that shredded coconut does not fluidise easily at moisture contents greater than 0.55 (55 weight percent moisture). It is also seen that fluidisation can be easily achieved by drying shredded coconut to moisture contents between approximately 0.25 to 0.55. The pressure drop characteristics within this region is seen to closely resemble the theoretical behaviour of a fluidised bed. It is also seen that particles of shredded coconut in beds of moisture contents less than 0.25 tend to undergo pneumatic transport if efforts are made to fluidise such beds.

A quasi-one dimensional model taking into account hindered drying beyond the critical tmisture content and droplet size distribution is used to scale-up nozzle tower type of a spray dryer with uniformly distributed air entry, based on pilot plant data. A pilot plant with 8 m high and 1.7 m diameter spray dryer is used to collect the drying data. Equilibrium and critical mistwe contents of the particles are also experimentally msured. The index of drying rate in the hindered drying period is calculated frun the pilot plant data. This index is used in the M e 1 to determine the drying capacity and thereby the mixinnnn particle size that can be produced ina 3.5 m dimoeter 12 m high nozzle t- type of spray dryer. Experiments are carried out in this spray dryer to verify the calculated values of the spray drying capacity. It is s h m that the model when used along with the pilot plant data is adequate for scale-up calaculations for nozzle taer type of spray dryers.

This paper presents the improved versions of -bed cross now and log simulation models. A diffusion model descries ibing internal diffusion of moisture within a grain kernel to compute moisture removal rate is developed and incur porsted in crossflow model to improve its flexlbillty and versetility. The lag model is suilably modified and employed to evaluate its accuracy and applicability compared to crossflow drying model for evaluating recirculating crossflow drying operation. Experiments were conducted on large scale recirculating crossflow dryer for corn drying. Simulation results are compared with experimental results to test the validity of drying models.

摘要:
The performance of a compression refrigerating type dehumidifier /heat pump with controllable discharge air dry bulb temperature. was investigated. In one experiment, the dehumidifier was implemented into a large scale commercial soybean drying process. The experimental result was compared with the computer simulated result of unconditioned ambient air soybean drying (without the dehumidifier). The dehumidified and reheated air was found to be able to remove 743 kg of water from soybeans in a 24-hour period; while the ambient air could remove only 85 kg.
