AbstractEight types of zircon habits are differentiated on the basis of structural and morphological considerations and their significance for the genesis of the mineral is discussed. Rate of crystallization and mobility of the constituents, including alkalinity, account for the variation of the zircon crystals from bipyramidal to prismatic.

AbstractEs wird die lineare Kristallisationsgeschwindigkeit (lKG) von Benzophenon mit Hilfe der Kapillarmethode in einem großen Unterkühlungsbereich gemessen. Bei einem Kapillardurchmesser 0,10 mm ergibt sich eine Tammannsche Kurve ohne Plateau mit einem maximalen lKG‐Wert von 55,5 mm · min−1. Bei kleinen Unterkühlungswerten stellen sich die stationären kleinen Wachstumsgeschwindigkeiten erst nach längerem Tempern ein.Die erhaltenen Experimentaldaten werden nach den Theorien für die lKG für den Fall der Schmelze bearbeitet, wobei die Schlußfolgerung gezogen wird, daß das Wachstum allem Anschein nach über eine Zweidimensionale Keimb

AbstractEine theoretische Analyse der Verteilungsfunktion der Induktionszeit bis zum Auftreten des ersten Kristallisationszentrums bei der homogenen und heterogenen Keimbildung in unterkühlten Schmelzen und übersättigten Lösungen wird durchgeführt. Es wird gezeigt, daß die Verteilungsfunktion bei homogener Keimbildung und bei konstanter Übersättigung einem Exponentialgesetz bzw. im allgemeinen Fall dem Weibull‐Gnedenko‐Gesetz gehorcht. Die Statistik des Anfangsstadiums der Bildung von Kristallisationszentren in Schmelzen und Lösungen. die Heterogenitäten enthalten, wird durch Überlagerung der aufgeführten Wechselbeziehungen beschrieben.Die Entstehungsgeschwindigkeit der Kristallisationszentren, die als Ableitung des Logarithmus der Verteilungsfunktion definiert ist, kann im allgemeinen Fall bei Gegenwart einer Heterogenität in der Schmelze nicht monoton von der Zeit abhängen. Die experimentellen Werte, die durch Untersuchung der Keimbildungskinetik in Tellurschmelzen und wäßrigen Lösungen des Lithiumjodats gewonnen wurden, bestätigen die theoretischen Schlußfolgerungen. Es wird gezeigt, daß eine Reihe diskreter Temperaturwerte der Übersättigung (Unterkühlung) existiert, bei denen der Beginn der Kristallisation der unterkühlten Schmelzen und der übersättigten Lösungen am wahrscheinlichsten und für Halbleiter und andere anorganis

AbstractThe condensation of tungsten vapours onto tungsten field emitter tips is studied. It is shown that at temperatures, at which the desorption flux can be neglected, the nuclei appear at a definite adatom concentration. Its value is found to be about 1013atoms/cm2, which corresponds to 1% from the monolayer. This value confirms our previous theoretical considerations, i. e. nucleation from a dilute adlayer takes place only if the desorption energy is lower than the vaporisation heat of the condensate. With condensation on its own surface this condition is always satisfied.

AbstractThis paper gives some fundamental data which are necessary for the growing of crystals of potassium acid phtalate. The solubility of that phtalate, the values of critical supersaturation of its solutions in water and in solutions containing 0–15% of glycerine and the values of crystal growth rates of the {111} and {001} faces are given. The growth rates R were measured in 10% glycerine solutions of various values of supersaturation (Δa) and of various values of the solution flow rate (v). The saturation temperature was 33 – 35°C. The dependence ofR(111)on the supersaturation Δα and the flow rate v was expressed by the equation\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ {\rm log }\hspace{1pt}R_{\left({111} \right)} = a* + b_1^* {\rm log }\hspace{1pt}\Delta a + b_2^* \log\hspace{1pt}{\rm v} $$\end{document}The values of coefficientsa*,b*1,b*2were calculated by means of the least squares method. AbstractThe method of decoration with anthraquinone has been used to study the electrical structure of matching cleavage surfaces of CaF2, LiF, NaCl, MgO and mica single crystals on the scale of optical microscopy. It has been found that the crystallization images of anthraquinone on matching areas of cleavage surfaces are regularly interconnected. From these crystallization pictures the electrical structure of the matching areas has been determined. The matching areas of CaF2cleavages along (111) have identical charge signs; the LiF matching cleavage areas along (100) have either opposite charge sings or identical but differing in magnitude; the NaCl matching cleavage surfaces along (100) are mainly charged negatively, however, regions are also observed which differ either in charge sign or magnitude; the matching areas of MgO cleavage surfaces along (100) are either charged positively of display low electrical activity; the matching cleavages of mica along (001) contain mostly positively charged areas with electrical axes displaced by 120° with respect to one another, small areas which are charged negatively, and also regions of low electrical activity. Suggestion is made that on brittle fracture of crystals the precise cleavage planes are in many cases attributed to the defect structure of crystals, to the presence of two‐dimensional boundaries between areas of different electrical structure. Fracture of single crystals, however, can also occur statistically as a consequence of their ideal or highly generalized defect structure. The regular correspondence of crystallization pictures on the surface of local areas of matching cleavages lends further support to the view that crystallization is a matrix replication process, programmed in the electrical structure of crystal substrat

AbstractUntersuchungsergebnisse über die Beeinflussung des Ärzvorganges an GaAs{111}‐Flächen durch Ultraschall werden mitgeteilt. Aus den Abtragungsraten aufA‐ undB‐Flächen bei 20°C, 40°C, und 60°C in Abhängigkeit von der Ultraschall‐Intensität wird abgeleitet, daß nicht die Mikrokavitation, sondern eine Verstärkung der Diffusion im Ätzmittel und eine Energiezufuhr zum Kristall infolge Ultraschallabsorption Erhöhung der Abtragungsraten bis auf den 10‐fachen Betrag bewirken. Die ausführliche Fehlerbetrachtung zeigt, daß bei der Bestimmung von Ätzraten Abweichungen der Einzelmessungen bis ± 50% auftreten, die eine statistische Auswertung zahlreicher Meßreihen erforderlich machen. Die Oberflächenausbildungen sin durch terrassen‐ und spiralförmige Ätzgruben auf denA‐Flächen gekennzeichnet, die 60°‐ Versetzungen und Schraubenversetzungen zugeordnet werden. AbstractA formula describing maximal precipitation rate of solutions in dependence on supersaturation is given. Experimental data of precipitation of barium nitrate are in good agreement with the results of calculation.
