摘要:
AbstractIn order to determine the presence of dermatophytes and saprophytes in healthy toe and finger nails, 120 students (60 male and 60 female) from preparatory schools at Sohag Governorate (Upper Egypt) were studied. 54 species in addition to 3 varieties belonging to 17 genera were isolated. Six species of true dermatophytes were collected:Microsporum audouiniivar.rivalieri, M. cookei, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, T. simii, T. terrestreandT. verrucosum. Chrysosporium, a well‐known keratinophilic genus, was prevalent and represented by 7 species (C. asperatum, C. indicum, C. keratinophilum, C. luteum, C. pannorum, C. tropicumandChrysosporiumstate ofThielavia sepedonium). The commonest saprophytes in order of frequency were members of the generaAspergillus, Penicillium, Alternaria, Scopulariopsis, Fusarium, Paecilomyces, Chaetomium, Syncephalastrum, Mucor, RhizopusandAcremoniu

摘要:
AbstractSeventy‐six species belonging to 29 genera were collected from 320 samples of cloven‐hooves and horns of goats and sheep.Chrysosporiumwas the most common genus on the various substrates and comprehended the following species:C. asperatum, Chrysosporiumanamorph ofArthroderma cuniculi, Chrysosporiumanamorph ofAnthroderma curreyi, C. georgii, C. indicum, C. keratinophilum, C. lobatum, C. lucknowense, C. pannicola, C. pseudomerdarium, C. queenslandicum, Chrysosporiumstate ofThielavia sepedoniumandC. tropicum. Some interesting fungi were isolated:Myceliophthoraanamorph ofArthroderma tuberculatum, Myceliophthoraanamorph ofCorynoascus novoguineensis, Myceliophthoraanamorph ofCtenomyces serratus, Trichosporon cutaneum, Trichophyton terrestreandT. verrucosum. Also, several saprobic filamentous fungi tolerating high levels of cycloheximide were islolated of which numerous members ofAcremonium, Aspergillus, Chaetomium, Fusarium, Penicillium, Scopulariopsisand serveral oth

摘要:
AbstractAn isolate ofOscillatoriafrom local eutrophic lake exhibits strong growth inhibitory effects, when phototrophically co‐cultured with a green alga and other blue‐green algae, including its natural predecessor. This effect was not observed on selected heterotrophic‐organisms. The characteristic interaction was also demonstrated with culture filtrates and cell‐free extracts, implying this effect to be due to some chemical released fromOscillatlia. From the mid‐log growth phase of the culture, a nonproteinaceous, moderately heat stable, and ether soluble metabolite was extracted by ether extraction. The primary site of the growth inhibitory substance (algicide) action appears to be the photosynthetic oxygen evolution, tested inAnacystis nidutlans. The characteristic algicidal substance may have a role, in nature, in species

摘要:
AbstractThe response of three amino acid biosynthetic enzymes, threonine dehydratase, tyrosine aminotransferase and saccharopine dehydrogenase, to conditions of histidine, tryptophan or lysine limitation was investigated in 15 yeast species. The activities of all these enzymes increased about two‐ to fourfold as a result of action of the general control of amino acid biosynthesis inBrettanomyces anomalus. Candida maltasa, Hansemala polymarpa, Rhodosporidium toruloides, Saccharomyces cerevisiaeandYarrowia lipolyilca. No evidence for the existence of the general control was found inCandida brumptii, Candida, utilis, Hansenula anomala, Hansemula henricii, Khuyveromyces marxianus, Pichia gulliermondii, Saccharomycopsn capsularis, Trichosporan adenino‐voranis and Trigonopsis variabi

摘要:
AbstractFermenter studies under batch and fed‐batch conditions were carried out to test the possibility of plasmid pBR322 production in large amounts by usingE. coli relAstrains. High amplification rates of pBR322 plasmid DNA were observed inE. coliCP79 (relA) andE. coliCP143 (relA) in both batch and fed‐batch cultivation after exhaustion of the amino acid arginine. The concentrations of plasmid DNA per unit of biomass were nearly the same in batch and in fedbatch fermentations ofE. coliCP79 andE. coliCP143. Therefore, the significantly higher biomass concentration of the two strains after fed‐batch fermentation gave a dramatic increase in the yield of plasmid DNA per litre of medium in comparison to the batch process. The results support the suggestion thatE. coli relAstrains are suitable hosts for production of large amounts of ColE1‐derived plasmids for recombinant DNA r

摘要:
AbstractA temperate phage Ml, infective towards someR. melilotistrains, was isolated from soil taken from local fields. Its morphology, host range, transducing ability and the locations of restriction endonuclease cleavage sites on the genomes were determined. Phage Ml was classified as belonging to B BRADLEY's group bacteriophages because of the hexagonal outlines of its head and its long, flexible and non‐contractible tail. The molecular weight of phage DNA was estimated to be 54.1 ± 1 kilobases (kb) and it corresponded to the value expected for capsid size – 70 nm. Phage Ml carries out general transduction and forms stable lysogens with theR. melilotistrain L
