摘要:
THIS is a report of a clinical research project which investigated effects of two different bowel evacuation treatments, physician ordered, at a Veterans Administration Hospital.1Since the project was the first clinical nursing research study conducted at this hospital, an exploratory investigation was made of patient-respondents' observations, opinions, and reactions to the clinical study process. The findings based on the responses of the patients were significant enough to warrant their inclusion in this report.

摘要:
SummaryIt was the purpose of this study to develop a tool to measure tactile contact, record these contacts during therapy, and compare the therapist's evaluation of the child's progress with the measurement of the child's tactile contacts with the therapist. The tool and measurements were necessary in order to determine if the progression toward trust, as defined by Erikson, could be measured by observing tactile interaction between a non-verbal child and her therapist (1).The results of this study suggest that fairly simple procedures can be developed for assessing changes in a child's sense of trust of a nonverbal level in a therapeutic situation.

摘要:
SummaryA study, using the Purdue Farm cardiac study questionnaire, was made of health attitudes and compliance with therapeutic advice of 18 high work-oriented (HW) and 10 low work-oriented (LW) patients among a group of 41 patients with myocardial infarction. Findings partially supported the three hypotheses that 1) HW patients will be more likely to have negative attitudes toward health care; 2) HW patients will be less likely to comply with therapeutic advice during hospitalization; and 31 HW patients will be less likely to comply with therapeutic advice following hospitalization.

摘要:
SummaryThe three major purposes of this paper were: 1) to report a method for studying appraisal interviewing and some quantitative data on interviewing behavior of head nurses emanating from its use, 2) to emphasize the positive and negative potentials in the performance appraisal process, and 3) to recommend operational, training, and research procedures. Some data obtained in a larger study of performance evaluation in a large VA medical and surgical hospital were presented. The competence of head nurses in the use of 14 interviewing roles was evaluated by a proximal observer procedure. Each psychologist observer sat in the room with each pair of nurses. Participants were 23 head nurses, 66 staff nurses, and 34 psychology trainees. The three roles most competently used were beingsupporting, friendly discussion, and not beingrejecting. These probably require least training and may tend to be emphasized in the presence of an observer. The three roles handled least adequately werereflecting feelings, asking for elaboration, andinformation gathering, perhaps because they are dependent upon considerable study of psychodynamics as well as supervised training in interviewing. Apparently the pattern of role effectiveness demonstrated by head nurses does not lead to optimal participation of staff nurses in work planning, goal setting, and evaluation of progress.Suggestions were made for further systematic research and training in appraisal interviewing. Recommendations were offered regarding the types of interaction between superior and subordinate most likely to improve performance.

摘要:
SummaryThis paper describes the method and approach of an exploratory study focusing on the actual roles of nursing personnel in meeting the nutritional needs of hospitalized patients. The study is sociological and anthropological in orientation. Data were collected in periods of intensive field work over a two year period in hospitals in California.Major interim findings are reported. The highlights indicate that: 1) diet is viewed in two perspectives, namely from a lay versus a professional point of reference; 2) nurses have negative responses to their nutrition education; 3) patients seek assistance primarily regarding food and its service as opposed to need for help in understanding principles of diet; 4) diabetes mellitus is perceived as a disease in which diet is of utmost concern above all other disease states; 5) patients turn to physicians as the source of information in every aspect of care; 6) diet instruction sheets are the principal means of conveying information to patients; and 7) the further the nurse is from the patient and the higher the staff position she holds, the higher priority level she places on nutrition in patient care.
