摘要:
Despite the seeming conviction that sport promotes ethical values, many paradoxes in sport ethics exist. To overcome some of these problems, attempts need to be made to activate some catalysts that might lead to an ethical mobilization in sport. Extensive inquiry into the concerns of ethics, professional preparation programs for coaches, school education programs, national governance, media coverage, and mobilization of professional forces are suggested as possible approaches for achieving ethics in sport.

摘要:
Although philosophers have searched persistently throughout history for a normative ethical system on which people could and should base their conduct, there is still no single, non-controversial foundation on which the entire structure of ethics can be built. This paper recommends that a scientific ethics approach would be best for the present and the future. It is argued that initially we do not provide an adequate means whereby the young person can bridge the gap between an implicit, developing ethical sense and what will in maturity be regarded as a sounder, more explicit approach to the making of ethical decisions. The scientific ethics approach is applied to the amateur-professional controversy in sport as an example of how it could assist our evolving democratic society today.

摘要:
Catalysts within, and external to, physical education have stimulated the development of career streams other than teacher preparation. Both teacher preparation and these new career streams adhere to an ad hoc model of professional preparation. This ad hoc model is dissected to uncover its limitations. Then the contours of an alternative model of professional preparation are presented along with mechanisms for quality control.

摘要:
The authors find Lawson's article to be both incorrect as to facts concerning the preparation of physical education teachers and misleading in the attempted analysis of problems in professional preparation. As such, the arguments set forth in the article will confuse and mislead rather than edify readers. Problematic areas in teacher preparation and the typical disciplinary agenda for reform are reviewed. Lawson's complex arguments are reduced to simple statements and critical errors of logic and fact are identified.

摘要:
Considerable effort has been expended toward the development of a discipline of physical education. The nature of physical education, however, reveals that it is more likely a professional field than a discipline. What is required is a means to draw from the several contributing disciplines and subdisciplines information needed to improve the practice of physical education. A model is described which centers on“disciplined study in physical education”in which the integration and synthesis work necessary to produce a theorypractice link is undertaken.

摘要:
An analogy between teaching and the performance of open sport skills is made. Common elements of perception, cue discrimination, and strategy selection are explained and illustrated. The implications of viewing teaching as an open skill are discussed, and specific suggestions are made for application to teacher training programs.

摘要:
The assumption of the leadership role in teaching is an area of inquiry often overlooked in research, behavior analysis, and professional preparation. The vertical dyad approach proposed in this paper represents a method of carefully structuring teacher student associations from a developmental perspective. The theoretical framework used is from a social psychology perspective and will permit the physical educator to maximally develop leadership relationships.
