Zusammenfassung1.

Zusammenfssung1. Summary1. In the Gooregonids investigated here the number of chromosomes in the generative tissue is constant.2. The diploid number of chromosomes is 96, and correspondingly the haploid number is 48. The same numerical values result as fundamental number also from examinations of Scandinavian and several Alpine forms of coregonida by other authors.3. All chromosomes in the coregonida examined by the author are rod‐shaped (acrocentric).4. In the somatic tissue of germ disks the number of chromosomes is not constant. Most frequent are values of approximately 96 and 48.5. This inconstancy is explained by mitotic disorders, interpreted by the author as the manifestation of the hybrid character of the coregonids examined by him.6. The author is of the opinion that at least since some time there is an increasing amount of artificial and natural hybridisation between various forms of the Lake of Constance, which mostly lead to introgreseive hybridisation. Since environmental conditions at present change rapidly in the Lake of Constance, it can be assumed that new combinations of adaptational value will originate and be preserved b

SummaryThis publication presents new results concerning the construction of cobwebs and the sexud behaviour of spiders (Araneae). The studied spiders:Crespmatoneta mutinensis, Drapetisca socialis, Lithyphantes paykullianusandCyrtophora citricoladiffer from their relatives either because of their beheviour or their morphology. It is demonstrated that the exact knowledge of the behaviour of these spiders is important for their classification. Therefore this publication is a contribution to the discussion about the importance of ethology for the zoological systematics.

Zusammenfassung1. Summary1. The forms ofNeotr. autumnalis(Shaw 1790) deacribed by Richards (1960) as found on the British Isles were found at various places of the European continent.2. Based on the oorrelated cheraateristias indicated by Richards, populations of several sites of finding were cleeeified into these forms and the variability of morphological symptoms waa stated. Populations ofNeotr. vernalis(Willmann, 1942) were inoluded in the investigation of the variability, sinoe their close relationship to the forms ofN. autumnaliswas detected.3. Acaording to the constancy, variation‐tendency and its scope, the taxonomical value of individual characteristics was evaluated. The morphological criteria can be subdivided into three groups. The firat group comprises those characteristics according to which the larvae of Trombiculinae were classified by the taxonomists into the speciesNeotrombiculaHirst 1915 and the subspciesNeotrombiculaHirst 1916. The second group comprises characteristics which, when combined, characterise the forms as speoies or subspecies. The third group contains characteristics without taxonomical value. Furthermore changes of characteristics considered as anomalies were stated.4. According to the morphological criteria the forms ofNeotr. autumnalisandNeotr. vernalisare considered as one species, subdivided into four subspecies. The assumption of the existence of four seperate taxonomical unita is supported by the results of the study of the spacial and timely distribution of the forms. The taxonomical consequences are drawn herefrom, four subspecies ofNeotr. autumnalisare postulated and their diagnoses are presented:1.Neotr. autumnalis(Shaw, 1790)autumnalis(Richards 1950)2.Neotr. autumnalis(Shaw, 1790)inopatinum(Oudemans, 1909)3.Neotr. autumnalis(Shaw, 1790)vernalis(Willmann, 1942)4.Neotr. autumnalis(Shaw, 1790)ea

SummaryA review is made of the nominal speciesof DiscolaimusCobb, 1913.Discolaimus majorof Andrássy (1959) from Rumania has been renamedD. perplexansn. sp. because it differs fromD. majorThorne, 1939, in many characters especially in having a spear which is shorter than head‐width and whose aperture measures more than half its length. From India four species ofDiscolaimushave been described and illustrated. These include two new species,D. brevisandD. tenax, and two known species,D. majorThorne, 1939, andD. similisThorne, 1939. These species have been collected from soil around roots of plants and trees in various localities of North India. A differential key to various species ofDiscolaimusis provided at the end of the work.

SummaryXiphophorw, hellerihas four subspecies living in different water systems of Central America. We have no idea how long they have been geographically isolated, because there could have been temporary communications between the single water systems in the past, even as they may occur today. The four subspecies can easily be distinguished by colour patterns and body shape.Four breeding stocks representing two subspecies and two populations of another subspecies were examined concerning morphology, development of gonads, growth rate, and maturity. ♀♀ and ♂♂ were always treated separately. For investigations of genotypical differences between the four breeding stocks it was necessary to carry out the experiments under constant environmental conditions.Among numerous morphological characteristics only three showed differences which were guaranteed by statistical calculations: 1. number of dorsal fin rays, 2. relation between total length and maximal body depth, 3. relation between total length and depth of peduncule. For all three characteristics a cline from north to south was obvious.Great differences concerning early development of gonads in either male or female direction were not observed between the stocks ofX. helleri. Only inX. helleri strigatusthe formation of gonoduct was slightly retarded in comparison with the other subspecies. This fact is related to late maturity inX. helleri strigatus. The connection between age, size, and maturity when genetically determined is the following: Late maturity is correlated to high ontogenetic age (= size); however, body size does not increase as fast as absolute age, meaning that growth rate is reduced. For other species some authors partly state the contrary. The possibility is established that different species exhibit different connections between maturity, size, and age.The modificability of growth rate and sexual maturity was studied by changing the conditions of space and food. The deterioration of environmental conditions leads to poorer growth rate and later size at maturity. These results correspond to Svärdsons conception; however, Svärdsons curve of modification includes, as well, an extremely favourable environment. The ♂♂ are always divided into two groups: those that show sexual differentiation at a young stage (Frühmännchen, ♂♂F) are tiny, slender ♂♂ which reach maturity and break off growth very early. On the other hand there are those which have a clumpsy, femalelike figure and whose maturity is retarded (Spätmännchen, ♂♂s). The curve of growth rate of these animals is similar to that of ♀♀. ♂♂sand ♀♀ do not stop their growth rate after maturity immediately but reduce their growth rate slowly. The different growth rate of ♂♂Fon one hand and ♀♀ and ♂♂son the other may be explained by different production and different effect of sexual hormones.♀♀ inseminated by ♂♂Fproduce an offspring with a higher percentage of ♂♂ than ♀♀ inseminated by ♂♂S. Inasmuch aspolygenic sex determination can be taken for granted, ♂♂Fand ♂♂Scan be interpreted as sexually strong and weak individuals. In contradiction to frequently occurring statements in literature sexual inversion withinX. hellerinever could be observed in spite of long‐dated investigations. It has become evident that ♀♀‐likeness of ♂♂Sbefore maturity, arrhenoidie‐ and seneacence‐phenomena of ♀♀ have given rise t
