摘要:
AbstractThe detection of malingering in the legal context frequently requires the use of psychiatric and psychological expert testimony. These experts may rely on certain clinical techniques in order to detect deception. This article addresses the problem of the admissibility in evidence of clinical procedures used by these experts. The scientific reliability and effect on constitutional rights of procedures such as hypnosis, polygraphy, “truth” drugs, and psychological tests is exami

摘要:
AbstractDifferences between clinical and forensic approaches to evaluating individuals for malingering are discussed. Several important studies are discussed relative to malingering in clinical evaluations, objective and projective psychological testing, and neuropsychological assessment procedures.

摘要:
AbstractHypnosis, as a method of detecting deception, is examined with respect to its forensic applications. The degree of hypnotizability and whether formal hypnotic procedures may be employed are discussed with both the relevant clinical and legal issues in mind. Finally, the use of hypnosis in determining the authenticity of psychosomatic conditions is addressed.

摘要:
AbstractThe detection of malingering in terms of neurologic signs and symptoms is described, including malingered coma, simulated deafness, feigned blindness, feigned weakness, and diminished sensation. While neurologic malingering is not an actual diagnosis, it is best detected through medical procedures. To identify malingering, the physician must demonstrate that the malingered sign or symptom is not caused by a diagnosable order and is instead clearly a consequence of the subject's volition.

摘要:
AbstractA brief review of the early and current applications of lie detectors to detecting deception is presented. Research findings on the accuracy of polygraphs in real life situations are discussed. Additionally, the circumstances of polygraph testing (i.e., friendly or adversarial), methods of “beating” the polygraph, and the acceptance of polygraph results in the courtroom are revie

摘要:
AbstractTwo models for the detection of dissimulation in mentally disordered individuals are presented. The first is a heuristic model summarizing useful indicators employed by practicing clinicians. The second and more extensive model integrates research findings from social‐psychological and clinical studies towards identifying empirically‐tested indicators of malingering and other forms of psychological decept

摘要:
AbstractThe author presented anonymous questionnaires to 172 patients and 160 medical students to assess the frequency and correlates of malingering in various groups in a medical center on a V.A. campus. The results indicate that sociopaths, drug abusers, and alcoholics are more prone to malinger than other individuals, supporting previous assertions that mental health professionals should have a higher index of suspicion for malingering in these diagnostic groups. Race and age were found to have small but significant correlations with malingering, but at present, this finding must be viewed cautiously. No association was found between somatization disorder and malingering.
