AbstractA formulation containing solubilized Nystatin called Ceratocide, is fungitoxic toCeratocystis ulmi(Buis.) Moreau as shown in laboratory studies.In controlled inoculations studies in eight‐year‐old elm saplings, Ceratocide was shown to have prophylactic utility in Dutch elm disease control when injected 2, 4 or 10 days before a challenge inoculation withC. ulmi. AbstractThe germination ability of teleutospores ofMelampsora pinitorquaRostr. overwintered in different situations and under different types of soil cover was studied. The germination period is affected by local environmental conditions. The intensity of germination of teleutospores overwintered in the underbrush is much lower than that of teleutospores overwintered On uncovered soil.

AbstractPlatanus accrifoliaHyb. is attacked by a serious disease: the canker stain. The responsible agent is an Ascomycete,Ceratocystis fimbriataf.plataniwhich is extremely virulent. During the last twelve years, it has killed more than 1,800 plane trees in the streets of Marseilles. This disease was until now strictly localized in north America.

AbstractLocalisation of sulphur in spruce needles treated with SO2.After exposure to SO2the tips of spruce needles arc richer in sulphur compounds than the bases. The accumulation of sulphur compounds results mainly in an increased content of inorganic sulphur. The analytical results explain the local occurrence of injuries at the needle tips.

AbstractPopulations of fungi and bacteria dominated by white yeasts and resembling those associated with leaves, were isolated from outer sheathing scales of dormant buds of 7 genera of deciduous trees(Fagus, Aesculus, Acer, Ulmus, Betula, PopulusandQuercus)but the internal parts ofTiliaandFraxinusbuds were also consistently contaminated.The importance of using samples of homogenized tissue and the temperature of the agar media are discussed.

AbstractThe effect of different concentrations of fluorine on the content of chlorophylls a and b in poplar leaves.The concentrations of the chlorophylls a and b and of the fluoride ions in poplar leaves were measured regularly from May to September 1974.
