摘要:
The reactions of hypobromite ions, of hypobromous acid, with iodate, nitrite, and formate ions have been investigated, together with the decomposition of hypobromite ions. The pHdependence of the rate show that the reactions with formate and nitrite ions are presumably reactions of hypobromous acid. The kinetic parameters for these reactions are reported, and show some similarities to the analogous reactions of hypochlorite ions or hypochlorous acid.

摘要:
The rapid and accurate determination of the relative stereochemistry of some postulated chlorinated polycyclodiene pesticide metabolites without excessive dependence on chemical methods is described. Proton assignments were made employing the new nuclear magnetic resonance (n.m.r.) shift reagent, Eu(DPM)3, which effected the separation of superimposed signals in these systems. The assignments based on coupling constant information and requiring spin decoupling equipment are in good agreement with those obtained from the Eu(DPM)3studies. The data presented establishes the relative stereochemistry of these biologically important compounds and demonstrates the utility of one or both approaches in elucidating their overall structures.

From the conductance measurements, the effect of solidification of solvent on the mobility of common ions(e.g., Na+, K+Cs+, Cl−, Br−, I−), inN-methylacetamide (NMA) solutions has been studied and the energy of activation for the conduction of electrolytes in both solid and liquid states calculated from. Arrhenius plots. The conductance behavior in solid phase (or better in solid solutions) has been indicated to be through the "hole-formation mechanism".

摘要:
The near-infrared spectrum of water at various temperatures and in aqueous solutions of Bu4NBr,, andis studied in the region 0.8–1.2 µ. The spectra are recorded differentially with respect to water by varying the cell lengths as to take into account density changes or the volume occupied by the solutes. A simple analysis of these spectra illustrates the qualitative similarity between the effects of the Bu4N+ion and that of a temperature decrement on the spectrum of water. On the other hand striking differences are observed in the differential spectra obtained with Bu4NBr and the phenyl substituted: salts. Further differences are exhibited in the relative solute-solvent interactions ofand.

摘要:
7-Acetyl-3-methyl-2,1-benzisoxazole has been synthesized by reduction of 2,6-diacetylnitrobenzene. While the chemical properties of the compound indicate that it undergoes valency-tautomerism, spectroscopic studies indicate that this is a relatively slow process. Comparisons with other heterocyclic systems having similar properties are noted.

The synthesis of some hexahydro-1,4-benzodiazocine derivatives by the dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) induced cyclization of the appropriateN-2-(2-aminophenyl)ethyl glycines is described. An analogous synthetic approach was used to prepare a hexahydro-1H-1,5-benzodiazonine derivative.

摘要:
In solution the 2-fluoro-5-chloro-, 2-fluoro-6-chloro-3-nitro-, 2-fluoro-6-chloro-5-nitro-, and 2,4,5-trichloro-benzalchlorides prefer conformations in which the C— bond of the side-chain lies in the plane of the aromatic ring. This C—H bond eclipses that ortho C—X bond (X = H, F, Cl) in which X is smaller than Y = H, F, Cl in the C—Y bond, also ortho to the dichloromethyl group. The long-range spin–spin coupling constants between the proton in the side-chain and the ring protons or fluorine nucleus are stereospecific. In particular, the coupling over four bonds between the side-chain proton and the ring fluorine is −0.3 Hz when the C—H and C—F bonds are arrangedcisto each other but is −2.5 Hz when these bonds have atransoidplanar arrangement.

摘要:
An equation of the van der Waals type is derived and applied to the calculation of vapor–liquid equilibria at elevated pressures. For the hard-sphere part of the equation the theoretical relation of Carnahan–Starling is used. The effect of intermolecular forces is represented by the usual van der Waals term but the "constanta" is permitted to vary with temperature and density as dictated by the experimentalPVTdata for argon; this variation of the "constanta" is generalized for other simple fluids through corresponding states. While this treatment is of little interest for representing the configurational properties of pure fluids, it is useful for calculating the properties of simple fluid mixtures. Illustrative vapor–liquid equilibrium calculations are performed for binary and ternary mixtures of nitrogen, argon, and oxygen at 6 and 18 atm.
