Abstract——A clinical survey of the condition of feline osteodystrophy as seen in Central Africa, with particular reference to 312 cases seen in the domestic cat in the Ndola district of Zambia, during the last ½ yr. Reference is made to the history of the condition in other parts of the world as well as in this continent, and the condition as it appears in Zambia is described in some detail. The value of this clinical data in determining the cause of the condition is discussed.Résumé—— Une étude clinique de la condition de l'osttéodystrophie féline telle que vue en Afrique Centrale, avec référence particulière a 312 cas observés chez le chat domestique dans le district Ndola, en Zambie, durant les 7½ dernieres années. Mention est faites de l'histoire de cette condition dans d'autres parties du monde ainsi que sur le continent, et la condition telle qu'elle apparait en Zambie est décrite avec quelques détails. La valeur de ces données cliniques dans la détermination de la cause de la condition est discutée.Zusammenfassung——Eineklinische Übersicht über das in Zentralafrika beobachtete Auftreten von Katzen‐Osteodystrophie mit besonderer Bezugnahme auf 312 Fälle, welche während der letzten 7½ Jahre bei Hauskatzen im Bezirke Ndola in Zambia beobachtet wurden. Abstract——The Authors consider the following problems associated with cervical salivary cysts: incidence, distribution, diagnosis, cause, pathology, treatment and results of treatment. They present detailed comments on the prospects of success using a line of treatment modified from that originally described by Berge (1938) and more recently described by Kealy (1964).Résumé——Les auteurs considèrent les problemes suivants qui sont associés à des kystes cervicaux salivaries: incidence, distribution, diagnostic, cause, pathologie, traîtement et résultats du traîtetnent. Abstract——Two Metastrongyloid nematodes are known to be parasitic in the dog. One,Filaroides osleri, produces verminous nodules in the trachea and main bronchi and may interfere with normal respiration. The other,Filaroides milksi, has selected as final habitat the lung parenchyma, and is usually an incidental rinding on histologic examination.Résumé——Deux nématodes métastrongyloides connus comme étant parasites chez le chien. L'un,Filaroide osleri, produit des modules vermineuses dans la trachée et les bronches et peut géner la respiration normale. L'autre,Filaroide milksi, a choisi comme habitat final le parenchyme des bronches et est d'habitude une découverte fortuite dans l'examen histologique.Zusammenfassung——Zwei Metafadenwurmnematoden sind als Parasiten in Hunden bekannt. Abstract——An account is given of a technique that has been successfully employed for the surgical stabilization of the shoulder joint in the event of recurring dislocation in four dogs and one cat. A strip of whole‐thickness skin is used as a reinforcing band which is threaded across the joint in such a way that the head of the humerus is secured firmly in the glenoid of the scapula.Résumé——Un compte‐rendu est donné d'une technique qui a été employée avec succès pour la stabilisation chirurgicale de l'articulation de l'épaule à l'occasion d'une dislocation récurrente chez quatre chiens et un chat. Abstract——The results of an histological examination of the skin from various regions of fourteen aged dogs are given. There is atrophy of the epidermis, appendages and dermis, with decrease in hair number. Senile elastosis and dermal basophilia as seen in man do not occur. Changes are variable in skin from different parts of the body. A characteristic feature of the aged apocrine gland is the presence of yellow refractile granules in the secretory cells, the chemical composition of these is not known, but they do not contain iron. There may be marked increase in dermal pigmentation.Résumé——Les réultats d'un examen histologique de la peau de diverses régions sur quatorze chiens âgés sont donnés. Il y a atrophie de l'épiderme, des appendices et des dermes avec diminution dans la quantité de poils. La kératose sénile et la basophilie dermale, comme constatées chez l'homme, n'apparaissent pas. Les changements de la peau diffèrent pour les diverses parties du corps. Un trait caractéristique de la glande apocrine âgée est la présence de granules réfractiles jaunes dans les cellules cecrétrices, dont la composition clinique est inconnue, rnais elles ne contiennent pas de fer. Elles peuvent être marquées par une augmentation de la pigmentation dermale.Zusammenfassung——Es werden die Resultate einer histologischen Hautuntersuchung in verschie‐denen Regionen bei vierzehn alten Hunden geschildert. Sie zeigen Schwund der Epidermis, der Ansätze und der Haut sowie Haarschwund. Die bei Menschen beobachteten Alterselastose und Dermalbasophilen kommen nicht vor. Unterschiedliche Hautveränderungen wurden an den verschiedenen Körperteilen festgestellt. Ein charakteristisches Merkmal der gealterten Apokrin‐drüse ist das Vorhandensein von gelben, refraktilen Granula in den Sekretionszellen, deren chemische Zusammensetzung nicht bekannt ist; sie sind jedoch nicht eisenhältig.
