摘要:
AbstractRay‐tracing volumetric data may take several minutes to compute a single image from a fixed viewpoint. We present techniques that generate approximate ray‐traced volumetric images in less than one second per image, after a lengthy initialization process is performed. These approximate images are based on methods that interpolate data sampled at locations on a sph

摘要:
AbstractThis paper presents an innovative way of animating actors at a high level based on the concept of synthetic vision. The objective is simple: to create an animation involving a synthetic actor automatically moving in a corridor avoiding objects and other synthetic actors. To simulate this behaviour, each synthetic actors uses a synthetic vision as its perception of the world and so as the unique input to its behavioural model. This model is based on the concept of displacement local automata (DLA), which is similar to the concept of a script for natural language processing. A DLA is an algorithm that can deal with a specific environment. Two DLAs, calledfollow‐the‐corridorandavoid‐the‐obstacle, are described in

摘要:
AbstractA new translucent display algorithm is proposed for grey‐scale images represented by G‐octrees. The algorithm generates a special triangle quadtree as the display image for the isometric projection of a G‐octree, while traversing the G‐octree from front to back, with respect to the viewpoint. A method of using the translucent effect to analyse the interiors of three‐dimensional objects is also described, together with its implementatio

摘要:
AbstractCreating objects with surface imperfections is accomplished through texture specification and generation techniques. Based on fractal subdivision techniques and relatively simple distribution models, a wide class of surface imperfections may be generated, combined and rendered. The surface effects include scratches, splotches, smudges, corrosion, mould, stains and rust. A rule‐based system is used to position the various surface imperfections on the texture map, and a simple natural language interface is used to specify the kinds of imperfections and their generative parameters through adverbs and prepositional phrases. Results along some of the imperfection dimensions are illustrate

摘要:
AbstractThis paper describes Menv, an environment for the development of interactive three‐dimensional modelling and animation systems. Menv supports both interactive and procedural techniques. Systems built upon Menv are implemented as a set of independent, co‐operating tools operating upon a shared workspace. Models are defined in a high‐level procedural language with calls to graphical primitives. Animation data is bound to the model through the use of time‐varyingarticulated va
