摘要:
SummaryEndovaginal ultrasound has been used more and more frequently for the diagnosis of gynecological tumors because it is easy and quick in connection with routine gynecological examinations. This has led to the detection of more unilocular, simple ovarian cysts in postmenopausal women than earlier known and to major surgery of these women. This report discusses the available evidence of the likelihood of a unilocular ovarian cyst not being malignant when found in a postmenopausal woman. We conclude that endovaginal ultrasound-guided puncture of unilocular ovarian cysts should be considered a good therapeutic alternative also in postmenopausal women.

摘要:
SummaryDilatation and curettage (D&C) is still considered by many the method of choice for examining women with postmenopausal bleeding. However, only 10% of these women have an endometrial cancer. Ultrasound has long been used for studying pathology of the endometrium but did not gain much interest until vaginal sonography became available. Vaginal sonography for measuring endometrial thickness has proved to have a high detection rate and low false-positive rate for diagnosis of endometrial pathology. An endometrial thickness of ≤ 4mm (double layer) means that endometrial cancer almost can be excluded. This paper discusses further the use of vaginal sonography for examining the endometrium in women with postmenopausal bleeding.

摘要:
SummaryTransrectal ultrasound (TRU) is slightly more accurate than computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in determining whether a malignant rectal wall tumor has invaded through the muscularis propria into the perirectal fat. This information is important in determining whether local transanal excision is an option or if more radical surgery with or without radiation therapy is required. It can also be used for follow-up patients treated with local excision or anterior resection to look for local recurrence in the rectal wall and or in the adjacent soft tissues and lymph nodes. TRU can help determine whether a mass felt on DRE arises from the rectal wall or the adjacent soft tissues and can be used to locate a perirectal abscess for drainage.
