摘要:
SUMMARYA case is described of bilateral renal calculi due to hyperparathyroidism in which no skeletal changes were found. A brief survey is given of all similar cases in the literature. The incidence of renal calculi in hyperparathyroidism and, conversely, of hyperparathyroidism in all cases of renal calculi, is discussed.Attention is drawn to the fact that unilateral renal calculi may be due to hyperparathyroidism. In the early stages of the disease, hyperparathyroidism is more liable to produce renal lithiasis than skeletal changes.A brief survey is given of the criteria for diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism. It is suggested that the possibility of hyperparathyroidism should be considered in all cases of multiple renal calculi, whether unilateral or bilateral.

摘要:
SUMMARYThe writer has reviewed in retrospect some of the problems arising from the urological aspect in 187 paraplegics admitted to Winwick Spinal Centre between February 1940 and June 1946.He found that posture appeared to play a major part in the control of infection, also that a closed bladder of the reflex cord or cauda equina type was the most satisfactory end result. Examination of seventeen further cases at least three and a half years after injury appears to confirm these findings. The problem of early bladder drainage is reviewed; the prevention of calculi, the abolition of residual urine, and urinary antiseptics are discussed and certain conclusions drawn. My thanks are due to Dr Fergus Ferguson and Sir Geoffrey Jefferson who were responsible for stimulating my interest in this work and made it possible for me to re‐examine the cases at Lyme Green, and who have always been ready with valuable advic

摘要:
SUMMARY1. Twenty cases of hypernephroma metastasising to the thyroid have been collected and one has been added.2. An account of this case which had misleading features is given.3. In all cases of growths exhibiting unusual features a carcinoma of the kidney should be excluded. My thanks are due to Sir Cecil Wakeley for permission to publish the clinical details of this case and for his encouragement, to Professor H. A. Magnus for the use of the pathological reports and helpful advice, to Dr J. Blewett for permission to reproduce the radiological findings, and to Mr Smith for the photographs.

摘要:
SUMMARYA case is described of multiple seminomata coexisting in the same testis with a malignant teratoma.Theories relative to the histogenesis of seminoma and teratoma of the testis are briefly reviewed. It is suggested that this case is inexplicable on the basis of a teratoid origin of seminoma and strongly supports the conception of seminoma as a carcinoma of seminal epithelium. The incidence of malignant disease of the testicle in the Royal Air Force is summarised, the outstanding features being the high percentage of malignant tumours which are found in the testis in such an age group and the remarkably similar mean age incidences of seminoma and teratoma. It is considered that this case throws no positive light on the causation of coexistence of seminoma and teratoma of the testis, but the indications are that it is a chance occurrence.

摘要:
SUMMARY1. Twenty‐five cases of infection of the urinary tract were treated with terramycin; there was a marked difference between the clinical and bacteriological results.2. Clinical cures numbered ten, whilst fourteen cases improved, and only one was regarded as a failure.3. In only two of the cases were the infecting bacteria eliminated; in the remainder the original infecting species remained or replacement species were isolated.4. The organisms isolated before the start of treatment were sensitive to terramycin; all the organisms present after treatment were more or less resistant to the antibiotic.5. The urinary concentration of terramycin was always many times thein vitroconcentration required to inhibit the growth of the organisms concerned.6. The significance of these results is discussed and certain conclusions are drawn. We are indebted to Professor T. J. Mackie, Professor L. S. P. Davidson, and Mr David Band for much helpful criticism. Messrs Chas. Pfizer and Co. kindly supplied the terramyci
