摘要:
In order to refine further the technique of mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry efforts are being made to combine the desirable features of sector based tandem instruments with those of triple quadrupole mass spectrometers. This has resulted in the construction of tandem mass spectrometers which incorporate both sector type analyzers and quadrupole mass filters. These so-called hybrid instruments, designed specifically for mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry applications, are appearing in a variety of geometries each with unique features. This review describes the hybrid instruments reported to date and discusses general considerations for evaluating hybrid instruments with regard to applications.

摘要:
An atmospheric pressure ionization source has been designed and evaluated which adapts well to a commercial Finnigan-MAT 4000 series quadrupole mass spectrometer. Gas phase sensitivity of less than 40 pptr dimethylmethylphosphonate was achieved using an exponential dilution flask.

摘要:
A constant current-constant voltage potentiostat system using a Commodore 64 microcomputer was designed and built to aid in the characterization of the aeration status of either in field (in situ) or laboratory soil samples. The system can control 64 separate inputs in the measurement of either reduction-oxidation potential, EH, or oxygen diffusion rate, ODR, in a solution phase or in a soil environment.

摘要:
Anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) is a well known technique for determining ppb levels of metal ions in environmental samples. One problem in the determination of metal ions at this low concentration level is the contribution of comparatively large amounts of metal ions originating from supporting electrolyte that is added to the sample and used to prepare standards. Pre-electrolysis has been found to reduce the heavy metal content in supporting electrolyte solutions to a few ppb. A moderate current, low cost, potentiostat and an electrochemical cell have been developed for the purification of supporting electrolytes by pre-electrolysis. It provides the moderate current needed at the start of the electrolysis especially during double layer charging as well as the small faradaic current needed through the duration of the electrolysis.

摘要:
Electronic circuits for Commodore-64 microcomputer control of a scanning monochromator and data acquisition via a lock-in amplifier are presented with a single beam photoacoustic spectrometer used as an example. Components needed to utilize the Commodore-64 microcomputer for instrument control are discussed together with software which allows for use of the Commodore-64 in spectroscopic applications, including data aquisition and background correction.
