A single particle photometric detector is described for use with steric field-flow fractionation. By counting individual particles, the detector circumvents the difficult problem of calibrating detector response for particulate systems. The system is based on the detection of light from a He-Ne laser scattered by particles flowing through a thin flow cell. It was designed for monitoring particles in the 1-70 μm size range. The flow cell, which is easily constructed, has a total volume of 4.6 μl and an optical viewing volume of only 2.8 x 10-3μl. A low power compound microscope is a major component of the system. The performance characteristics of the detector are determined by using polystyrene latex beads of different diameters carried through the cell at different flow rates. Measurements are reported for relative signal response as a function of particle diameter, cell time constant as it depends on flow rate, and particle count in relationship to particle concentration. Examples of the detector's response are shown.

摘要:
A colorimetric method for the microdetermination of aromatic primary amines has been developed. The method is based on coupling the diazotized amine with 8-hydroxyquinoline in alkaline medium. The optimum. conditions for maximun colour development were studied and the adopted procedure was applied for the analysis of ten different amines.

The design and construction of an inexpensive temperature programmer for use with a Carle Model 311 isothermal gas chromatograph is described. The operator may control the initial and final temperatures and the rate of temperature increase between these limits. Initial and final temperatures between ambient and 399°C may be chosen with programmed temperature rates between 00.0 and 39.9°C/min in increments of 0.1°C. Most temperature programmers are restricted to programming rates which increase in powers of two. This programmer is readily adaptable to other gas chromatographs or any instrument which incorporates a thumbwheel-switch, incremental voltage divider for control.

摘要:
A spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of indenolol hydrochloride and its tablets (Pulsan(R)10 mg and 30 mg tablets) at room temperature is described. The method is simple, selective and sensitive enough for the determination of indenolol in nanomolar concentrations. Furthermore, the proposed method helps in the identification of the drug. The procedure involves establishment of the calibration curve and comparison of fluorescence intensity of standard solution of authentic indenolol hydrochloride to that of unknown sample under identical conditions and with reference to the linear part of the curve. The wavelengths employed for excitation and emission were 248 nm and 325 nm respectively.

We measured the rate of change of the volume of water cooling in an open container, applying a new technique for liquid level (determination, based on the moire effect. It is shown that at temperatures above 45°C the evaporation rate, h, depends exponentially on the reciprocal temperature. Thus the heat of vaporization. δHvap, can be calculated in a simple manner.
