The material was been collected in 1972 during a field trip performed by the research vessel of the National Institute of Limnology, Argentina, along the main course of the Paraná River from the Santa Fe harbor down to the Río de la Plata. Sixty sampling stations were covered. In the lower course of the river sampling was carried out in the Paraná Guazú and the Paraná Bravo branches down to its confluence with the Uruguay River, and the Paraná de las Palmas and the Rio de la Plata down to the Buenos Aires harbor. Water samples for chemical analysis were collected and some physical parameters were measured.

A new genus of the family Trichomycteridae,Bullockia,and a new species ofTrichomycterusare described.Bullockiagen. nov. is a monospecific and relict genus in the freshwaters of Chile.Trichomycterus mendozensisn. sp. is a freshwater relict from Argentina. Preliminary diagnoses of the subfamilies Pygidiinae and Nematogenyinae and the generaTrichomycterus, HatcheriaandNematogenysare given.

Discoveries of the rare sweetwater‐crabPlatychirograpsus typicusare hitherto known from Tabasco and Veracruz (Mexico). A new male specimen was found at the Rio de Alatorre. The crab lived under a stone in a quiet area of the river. The cave where the crab dwelled was closed and defended by its mighty pair of scissors. Footprints prove thatPlatychirograpsus typicusdoes not move far away from its living place.

Lobopoda wittmerin. sp. is described from the Dominican Republic; the male ofL. notapunctaCampbell is described for the first time.Lobopoda haitensis, L. notapuncta,andHymenorus haitiuspreviously known only from Haiti are reported from the Dominican Republic;Allecula ramosipreviously known from Puerto Rico is also reported from the Dominican Republic.Hymenorus convexusandH. jamaicensisknown previously from the Bahama Islands and Cuba and from Jamaica respectively are reported for the first time from the Cayman Islands.
