摘要:
Davainea himantopodisJohnston, 1911 was described in a sample ofHimantopus leucocephalusGould, 1817 (Aves; Recurvirostridae) from Australia. This cestode species was found as a common parasite of the Common Black‐winged Stilt,Himantopus (H.) melanurusVieillot, 1817, in Argentina. In this paper, it is studied and figured. It is compared with Johnston's original material and it is recorded for the first time in the Neotropical Region.

摘要:
We describe the workers ofPlebeia wittmanni, a new species of stingless bees recently discovered in the Serra do Sudeste of Rio Grande do Sul, Southern Brazil. The nests are built in crevices of rocks (Wittmann, 1989).

摘要:
The new species of stingless bees,Plebeia wittmanni, was found during a four years survey of the bees of Rio Grande do Sul, Southern Brazil. Bees of this species construct their nests in cavities of rocks. As the brood nest is not surrounded by an involucrum, the nest architecture can easily be disintegrated and parts of the nest can be built wherever space is available in a crack. Apparently cracks and crevices in granite rocks provide preferable nesting sites. The distribution ofP. wittmanniin Rio Grande do Sul suggests that its dispersal is closely related to the occurrence of appropriate rocks, especially granite. In other areas this species was observed as culture follower, nesting in cracks in walls.

摘要:
To understand the taxonomic and phylogenetic relationships ofAlsodes montanusandA. pehuenchethe species were compared with species of the generaAlsodesandTelmatobius.Comparisons were based on internal and external, qualitative and quantitative characters. Information was analysed phenetically and phylogenetically. Phenetic analysis reveals forA. montanusandA. pehuenchean independent position with respect to otherAlsodesand intermediate between species ofAbodesandTelmatobius.Phylogenetic analysis reveals thatA. montanusandA. pehuenchehave more ancestral states of characters than the species ofAbodesandTelmatobiusanalysed.

摘要:
Annual growth ofBiomphalaria straminea(Dunker, 1848) has been estimated following the shifts in size‐frequency peaks based on shell diameter measurements. Monthly samples were taken from an artificial irrigation channel system in a sugar‐cane field at Bella Unión, Artigas, Uruguay. Normal curves were fitted to each monthly size frequency distribution in order to obtain the mean shell diameter for each generation or age‐group. The age‐diameter relationship was determined using the Von Bertalanffy's equation. Theoretical growth curve was calculated for the period February 1986 ‐ February 1987. The equation corresponding to age‐diameter relationship is: Lt= 7.75 e‐0.2087 twhere Ltis the shell diameter corresponding to time t expressed in months. Growth rate diminishes with increasing shell diameter. The life span has been calculated to be 12 months at maximum. Settlement of juveniles takes place once a year at Bella Unión, in summer.

摘要:
Recognition of six further species amongst micro‐caddisflies from Dominican amber, raises to seven the number of hydroptilids known from these early Miocene deposits. One specimen is referred to the extantOchrotrichia (Ochrotrichia) aldama(Mosely), and three new species appear to be closely allied to other modern CaribbeanOchrotrichia.Of the remaining two species, one is inLeucotrkhiaMosely and one inAlisotrichiaFlint. For completeness, figures of the previously‐describedOchrotrichia doehleriWichard are included. Comparisons with the modern Antillean fauna suggest little change in the Neotropical element over the last 20 million years. At present, only hydroptilids with Neotropical affinities are known from Dominican amber.
