摘要:
The extremely abbreviated larval development of the small palaemonid shrimpPalaemonetes (Palaemonetes) mercedaePereira, 1986 is described. Three ovigerous females, collected in a Central Amazonian blackwater forest creek, released their larvae in the laboratory. This species bears few (08, 11), large (2.01 × 1.13 mm), yolk‐rich eggs and hatches as a very advanced larva, which attains the juvenile phase after five days, at the first molt. The only significant non‐adult features are: the lack of spines on the carapace, the mouth parts without setae, the pleopods bearing no appendices interna, the absence of free uropods, and the broadly rounded, highly setaceous telson. Some characteristics of the larva and first juvenile stage are described and illustrated. These characteristics are compared with those presented by the other direct developers of the family Palaemonidae.

摘要:
Food composition of the Greyish and the Golden‐billed Saltator was studied by examination of stomach contents in the course of the year. These emberizine birds living near the Parana river in Argentine show a relatively broad spectrum of food items both from seeds and insects, but plant seed are most important. Food niche overlap is considerable and amounts to 44% (index of overlap). The results are shown for both species for the different seasons in the figs.

摘要:
The preferred habitat ofReithrodonin northern Patagonia is grassy turf, where densities reach about 10 per ha. It occupies burrows in the daytime and feeds on green vegetation at night. The unwary nature of many individuals permits close observation for hours at a time from a distance of only a few meters. They feed for many hours each night, flagrantly exposed to numerous competent predators. Longevity is less than 2 years, and reproductive potential is similar to that of other mice living nearby. Females are as large as males. Each night reithrodons eat their own weight in green grass and produce hundreds of fecal pellets; apparent digestibility is 43 percent. A singleReithrodonrequires the standing crop on about 0.13 m2of turf each night.

摘要:
Maruina (Aculcina) caceresispec, nov., the first Peruvian representative of the genus, is described and figured. Its closest described relatives,M. (A.) amadaHOGUE andM. (A.) queridaHOGUE live in Costa Rica. The new species is readily distinguished from both by its narrow aedeagus and the presence of a Y‐shaped distal aedeagus sclerite.
