摘要:
Climatic, morphological and cultural factors of the Chilean littoral in terrestrial environment and the geographic and bathimetric distribution of marine littoral species are analyzed, in relation to the oceanographic conditions of the coast. Disagreements between the marine and terrestrial latitudinal zonation are explained by the special littoral morphology and the thermic anomalies produced by the currents and by the coastal upwelling. For the littoral waters, the temperatures of North Chile are markedly colder than accepted in the literature in making biogeographic analysis, due to near isotherms parallel to the coast and because the information considered does not answer the strictly littoral conditions. In relation to bathimetric distribution, the subsuperficial layers show anoxic characteristics for the benthic elements at deepest 50 m in northern Chile (distributive barricade) and extremely low salinities in the patagonic region limiting the species distribution in the superficial layers. Three littoral biogeographic Provinces are defined for the South‐Ost Pacific.

摘要:
Using a total of 43 craneological data obtained from any of 73 vicugna and 25 alpaca skulls, three problems were analyzed:•Identification of skulls•Taxonomic situation of the vicugna•Origin of the alpaca.

摘要:
Rivulus beniensis, formerly found by the author in small artificial ditches near Tingo Maria (Peru), is reproted from a natural habitat in the environment. The population in the ditches originates from this habitat. A chemical analysis of the water is included.

摘要:
Reliquia santamartais an unusual Pierine butterfly endemic to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta of northeastern Colombia, where it flies above 3500 m. Its biology is of particular interest because of the possibility that it might be a relict derived from the otherwise HolarcticPieris callidicegroup, which it strongly resembles phenotypically. Its behavior was studied afield for comparison with Nearctic members of that group. MaleR. santamartaare vigorous hilltoppers, assembling to topographic prominences, while females are frequently encountered at lower elevations. Flight patterns, thermoregulatory postures, and interactions between and within the sexes are all virtually identical to high‐montane and alpine NearcticPieris. The natural host plant was not determined. The role of seasonality in the biology ofR. santamartais discussed. Behavior data alone are inadequate to determine whetherR. santamartais closely related to or strongly convergent with the Nearctic taxa.

摘要:
All early stages ofPtenopsila,a characteristic psocid genus of southern South America, are described and features of taxonomic value are illustrated. Examination of early stages confirms the placement of this genus in the Caeciliidae.
