摘要:
Despite their wide-spread distribution and abundance, grisons (Galictis cuja) are one of the least known carnivore in the Neotropics. We studied their diet in North-western Patagonia, and evaluated their potential impact on European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Rabbits invaded Argentina from Chile between 1945 and 1950 and have since rapidly expanded southwards along the river valleys of North-western Patagonia. We compared the diet of grisons between sites of similar environmental characteristics that differed in the abundance of rabbits by analysis of their scats. Grisons preyed primarily upon mammals (lagomorphs and cricetids), and secondarily upon birds and reptiles. They hunt almost exclusively on lagomorphs when the density of rabbits is high. This result indicates that grisons may be important predators of rabbits and therefore further studies are warranted to confirm their role in the control of rabbits in Patagonia.

摘要:
Elachistocleis erythrogaster spec. nov. is described from São Francisco de Paula on the mountains of the Serra Geral, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is about 30 mm in size with deep black throat, black and blue marbled sides and bright red-orange venter. Egg laying and tadpoles are described. The new microhylid inhabits open grassland. Its natural history is briefly described including sonagrams of the advertisement call. The characters discriminating the new frog from the sympatrically occurring E. ovalis are discussed. Elachistocleis erythrogaster spec. nov. A nova espécie habita formações campestres. Aspectos da hisória natural são brevemente apresentados, incluindo sonogramas do canto nupcial. Os caracteres que diferenciam a nova espécie da espécie sympÝtrica, E. ovalis, são discutidos.

摘要:
Tupiperla generic characters are discussed and the Brazilian species are revised. Tupiperla gracilis and T. tesselata are redescribed. Paragripopteryx eleonorae is transferred to Tupiperla. Seven new species, T. illiesi, T. modesta, T. oliveirai, T. reichardti, T. robusta, T. sulina and T. umbya, are described. A key to the known species is offered.

摘要:
Following the Australian CSIRO strategies, the United States Department of Agriculture introduced several dung beetle species as a biological control to decrease the dung accumulation and proliferation of different pest fly species therein. Of these, two species have been very successful: Digitonthophagus gazella and Euoniticellus intermedius. They have expanded from their release sites in the United States, and quickly invaded Mexican territory and dispersed rapidly. Here we report on 27 new capture sites in several Mexican states from 1994 to 1996 and discuss invasion routes as well as ecological conditions.

摘要:
Bee-plant relations were studied in the Guaritas region in subtropical Brazil. In this habitat most of the melittophilous plants are herbs, dwarf shrubs and succulents. Bees of about 250 species were recorded foraging on flowers of about 220 plant species. Approximately 30% of the bee species were recognized as oligolectic. a-diversity was particularly high in the bee families Anthophoridae and Halictidae. Evidently, the local apifauna comprises taxa originating from adjacent areas with temperate climate in Uruguay and Argentina. Further biogeographic and environmental conditions probably contributing to the species richness in this up to date little disturbed region are discussed as well as presumed coevolutionary links between the bee and plant partners in the numerous oligolectic foraging strategies observed in this community.

摘要:
Adults and immatures of Novonothrus kethleyi spec. nov. are described. These Oribatid specimens originate from a forest litter sample collected in Chile. The mite is distinguished from all congeneric species by a trilobed posterior notogastral margin, monodactylous legs, short, broad and distally rounded posterior notogastral setae, and a thick, scale-like seta it' on tarsi II–IV in the adults.
