摘要:
The Conservative Government has intensified its commitment to union exclusion policies: new legislation has been implemented and the state is being restructured. Parallel policies have been implemented by private employers. In consequence, collective bargaining has been devolved to subordinate unit level, and union recognition and membership has further declined.

摘要:
Official Russian trade unions seek to maintain their traditional privileges and resources, while alternative unions have remained marginal and relatively ineffectual. The result is that workers are not effectively represented by either type of union. This argument is supported by extensive original research, examining the recent history of Russian unionism.

摘要:
Despite the centrality of Company Councils for Japanese firms in the UK, empirical data on their evolution is rare. In this article consultation methods used by a Japanese manufacturing transplant are analysed using a longitudinal approach. The findings suggest that the development of a ‘consensus culture’ proved to be highly problematic for employees, shop stewards, local managers and Japanese staff, especially at the consultation‐bargaining inte

摘要:
Irish trade unions, at establishment level, are experiencing the same problems as in other countries. This article, from a survey of 1500 companies, firstly assesses the impact of structural variables on trade union density; and, secondly, the influence of human resource management on labour management strategies.

摘要:
This article explores a stage in the capitalist transformation of the Czech Republic in early 1993. Three levels of change are examined: institutional developments in industrial relations; perceptions of change among union policy makers; and attitudes and experiences of managers and workers at workplace level.

摘要:
Buchanan used the Herfindahl index to measure trade union membership concentration in a recent article for this journal. This note argues that the Herfindahl index is an appropriate measure of trade union membership concentration. However, the manner in which Buchanan applied it is questioned and data are presented to demonstrate the limitations of his approach.
