Summary.A new cold reactive antibody directed against fetal (i) cells is described in 90% of patients with infectious mononucleosis. It appears to be the 7S counterpart of the previously described 19S anti‐i antibody. The 7S anti‐i antibody interacts with a 19S anti γ globulin and the combination is responsible for the majority of the cold agglutinin phenomena previously shown in this disorder. Summary.The present report describes the occurrence of hemoglobinemia and hemoglobinuria in a patient with warm antibody hemolytic anemia in whom extensive studies failed to demonstrate the presence of a hemolysin or complementfixing antibody. Studies of the patient's red cells revealed only gamma globulin coating. Studies of the patient's serum revealed the presence of a γG globulin antibody capable of coating normal cells with gamma globulin but not with complement. No hemolysin could be demonstrated even with the use of special techniques known to enhance detection of hemolytic antibodies. Based on these negative findings and on previous experimental and clinical observations concerning the iso‐antibody, anti D, the possibility is raised that the hemoglobinuria observed in this patient resulted from extravascular red cell destruction of such magnitude that the capacity of the reticuloendothelial system to metabolize the products of red cell breakdown was exceed

Summary.The majority of Rh(D) negative immunised mothers have some saline agglutinating anti‐D in their sera during subsequent pregnancies. This saline antibody is related to a complex effect on the severity of haemolytic disease of the foetus: the stillbirth rate is reduced while the severity of disease among liveborn infants increases slightly with rising titres of saline anti‐D. Also, when the observed saline anti‐D titre is I the severity of disease is markedly incresed while the protective effect of saline anti‐D on the stillbirth rate fails to operate. Summary.When a specific antigen‐antibody complex is formed another antibody present at the same time, or introduced to the complex subsequently, can attach to and be eluted from the complex although the antigen to which it is directed is not present. This nonspecific binding of antibody, the Matuhasi‐Ogata phenomenon, has been examined in a series of 45 experiments and has been shown to occur independently of temperature, the strength or specificity of any of the antibodies involved or red cell individuality.
