摘要:
AbstractThe MUMEDALA (MUlti‐MEDia Authoring LAnguage) system is an authoring facility that is designed to enable the creation and control of a sophisticated interactive learning environment. Such an environment might contain a variety of channels that enable (1) the presentation of instructional material, and (2) the capture of student response and monitoring data. The latter provides the means of achieving highly individualized instructional schema based upon the use of a range of teaching media. This paper presents an overview of the MUMEDALA system, its design features and the progress being made towards its realizatio

摘要:
AbstractA computerized question‐banking system has been developed for use in the APU national assessment in science programme. Search‐relevant information for approximately 3000 science questions is currently machine‐stored; among this information for each question is a set of key terms (up to 30 characters each). Test selection and general browse facilities are available in addition to the usual bank management routines. The power of the browse procedure has lately been dramatically increased by linking a thesaurus‐access option into the system; this allows total flexibility in the assignment of key terms to individual questions while minimizing the possibility of relevant questions being missed in a search involving key term criteria. This paper outlines the implementation and potential uses of the thesaurus‐linked browse

摘要:
AbstractHow to Study Effectivelywas probably the first distance learning course in the UK to help students to acquire learning skills. It has consistently attracted large numbers of students. Sam Rouse has tutored the course for the whole of its life and this paper reports the result of an evaluation he recently carried out. Samples of three student groups, all enrolled in 1972, were asked for their views on the course after a ten year gap. A group of‘normal’enrollers is compared with two more special groups, one of TUC sponsored students and one of intending ordinands in the Church of England. Why did they enrol? How many assignments did they complete? What did they think of the course? What differences if any has it made to their lives? The paper concludes with three case studies of students, one from each group. The full report,And Having Studied Effectively, is published by the National Extension Coll

摘要:
AbstractThe problem of the usefulness of educational evaluation activities is one which has been of concern for some time. Recently, evaluations of educational media have been criticized in particular. This paper identifies several alternative models for the design of evaluation studies and describes a study based upon aspects of these alternative models. Some issues and problems arising from the review are discussed, and the paper concludes by referring again to the issue of the usefulness of educational media evaluations.

摘要:
AbstractThis is a report and analysis of a survey of A‐level textbook use in physics, chemistry and biology by sixth‐form students, taken at the end of their courses in English secondary schools. Texts are being used but primarily after the lesson, at the student's discretion and with great variations between students as far as the amount read is concerned. Biology texts were used, on average, the most and physics texts the least. Differences also existed in the detailed nature of use. The implications for textbook critics, writers, teachers and teacher trainers are briefly discus

摘要:
AbstractThis paper presents the results of a survey conducted among departmental resource centres in higher education. The survey aimed at quantifying, validating and supplementing information gathered through visits, case studies and the literature and was constructed around six areas: information about each center; details of the learning resources housed in them; an assessment of their use; feedback and evaluation activities; information about the staff in charge of centres; and finally a section on general comments made by respondents.
