摘要:
AbstractWe have determined the complete nucleotide sequence of a 29·7 kb segment from the right arm of chromosome II carried by the cosmid α61. The sequence encodes the 3′ region of theIRA1gene and 13 complete open reading frames, of which ten correspond to new genes and three (CIF1, ATPsvandCKS1) have been sequenced previously. The density of protein coding sequences is particularly high and corresponds to 84% of the total length. Two new genes encode membrane proteins, one of which is particularly large, 273 kDa. In one case (ATPsv), the comparison of our sequence and the published sequence reveals significant differences. The sequence has been deposited in the EMBL data library under the Accession Number X75

摘要:
AbstractThe DNA sequence of two contiguous 7648 bp and 1194 bpBamHI fragments from the cosmid α1201 located about 60 kb from the centromere on the left arm of chromosome II fromSaccharomyces cerevisiaehas been determined. Sequence analysis reveals four new open reading frames longer than 300 bp:YBL0415(309 bp),YBL0416(4539 bp).YBL0417(1035 bp) andYBL0414(2115 bp), which extends into the neighbouring 5·2 kbBamHI fragment. TheYBL0414shows homologies to the mouse 68 kDa andDrosophila melanogaster76 kDa subunits of the DNA polymerase α‐primase complex. TheYBL0417is homologous to bacterial GTP cyclohydrolase II (EC 3.5.4.25). The sequence has been deposited in the EMBC data library under Accession Number X7

摘要:
AbstractA 20·5 kb DNA fragment from the left arm of chromosome XI ofSaccharomyces cerevisiaehas been sequenced and analysed. Thirteen open reading frames (ORFs) for proteins longer than 100 amino acids were discovered. Among them, two are the known genesMRP49andTPK3; two others encode proteins which show strong similarity with a yeast putative protein kinase and a yeast choline transport protein; one other shows weaker similarity with a yeast Ca2+/calmodulin‐dependent protein kinase. Moreover, two putative proteins encoded by ORFs located in the sequenced fragment are closely similar to non‐yeast proteins: theCaenorhabditis eleganselongation factor 2 and a glutamic acid‐rich protein ofPlasmodium falciparum. The sequence has been deposited in the EMBL data library under Accession Number

摘要:
AbstractWe have completely sequenced on both strands a continuous DNA segment of 36·2 kb located on the left arm ofSaccharomyces cerevisiaechromosome XI. Sequence analysis reveals the presence of 20 open reading frames (ORFs) at least 100 amino acids long. Five of these ORFs correspond to known genes; five others show homology with known proteins; the ten remaining ORFs identified show no detectable homology with other protein sequences contained in data banks and may represent new biological functions. The sequence has been deposited in the EMBL data library under Agreement Number Z26877

摘要:
AbstractWe report the sequence of a 12 kilobase region spanning the centromere ofSaccharomyces cerevisiaechromosome II. The sequence from the left arm includes genes for histones H2A and H2B. The sequence from the right arm includes a gene that probably encodes a novel trehalase, as well as theCOQ1gene (for an enzyme involved in coenzyme Q biosynthesis), and an open reading reading frame with significant similarity to bacterial genes of unknown function. The trehalase gene (YBR0106) on chromosome II is located beside the centromere and transcribed towards it. This is identical to the arrangement of the neutral trehalase gene (NTH1) beside the centromere of chromosome IV. The centromere regions of chromosomes II and IV may therefore have arisen through a duplication of the centromere region of an ancestral chromosome. The YBR0106 and NTH1 proteins are 77% identical in predicted amino acid sequence, but there is no pronounced sequence similarity between the two centromeres (CEN2andCEN4) outside of the universally conserved CDE I and CDE III elements. The genes flanking the centromere and trehalase genes differ between the two chromosomes, so the similarity between chromosomes II and IV may be less extensive than that recently reported between chromosomes III and XIV. The sequence has been deposited in the EMBL data library under Accession Number Z26494.

摘要:
AbstractThe sequence of a 32 420 bp segment ofSaccharomyces cerevisiaechromosome II has been deduced. The sequence data revealed 19 potential new genes covering 83·5% of the sequence. Four genes had already been cloned and sequenced: part ofRIF1,DPB3,MRP‐L27 andSNF5. Besides these four genes, 15 open reading frames (ORFs) of at least 100 amino acids encoding potential new genes were identified. Two of these ORFs are overlapping and a third is located within another ORF.The putative gene product of ORF YBR2039 was homologous to the group of uncoupling proteins involved in the mitochondrial energy transfer system. We propose a remapping of theMRP‐L27 gene encoding the mitoribosomal protein YmL27 as it previously has been mapped on chromosome X. The ORF YBR2020 has a strong homology with a 31·9% identity in a 473 amino acid region to the yeast geneSEC61, suggesting that YBR2020 is a new gene encoding a protein involved in translocation of proteins in the yeast cell. Six of the potential genes do not exhibit any significant homology to previously sequenced genes as predicted in the Fast A analysis. The sequence has been deposited in the EMBL data library under Accession Number X

摘要:
AbstractThe complete DNA sequence of cosmid clone pUKG148 comprising 28 600 base pairs was determined from an ordered set of subclones. The sequence contains 22 open reading frames longer than 100 amino acids of which five are entirely covered by other, longer reading frames. YKL054 exhibits 25% homology at the amino acid level to a number of plant storage proteins of the glutenin type, YKL056 is 40% homologous to a translationally controlled mammalian tumour protein, YKL058 (TOA2) is identical to the small subunit of transcription factor TFIIA from yeast and YKL060 is identical to theFBA1gene also from yeast, already sequenced but not mapped to chromosome XI. The remaining 13 open reading frames show weak or no homology to known genes. The nucleotide sequence data have been deposited in the EMBL and GenBank data libraries under Accession Number X75781.

摘要:
AbstractThe complete DNA sequence of cosmid clone pEKG080 comprising 20 723 base pairs was determined from an ordered set of subclones. The sequence contains nine open reading frames (ORFs) longer than 100 amino acids. The deduced amino acid sequence of YKL067 exhibits significant similarity to nucleoside diphosphate kinases from a number of species and probably represents this gene in yeast. YKL068 is identical to theNUP100gene recently cloned and sequenced. The gene codes for a nuclear pore complex protein. YKL073 is identical to Hsp70 proteins from yeast andHydraat about 20% of the amino acids. The significance of this similarity is uncertain. The remaining six ORFs do not share homology with known proteins. Three tRNAs for histidine, valine and tryptophan respectively were identified, the latter interrupted by a 34 bp intron. Solo delta sequences were found at three locations. The nucleotide sequence data have been deposited in the EMBL and GenBank data libraries under Accession Number X75780.

摘要:
AbstractWe report here the sequence of a 33,117 bp DNA fragment located approximately 30 kb from the centromere on the right arm ofSaccharomyces cerevisiaechromosome II. We have detected 16 open reading frames (ORFs) longer than 450 bp, provisionally called YBR0301 to YBR0322, covering 70·4% of the entire sequence. The ORFs YBR0301, YBR0302, YBR0303, YBR0305 and YBR0315 correspond to previously sequencedS. cerevisiaegenesGAL10, GAL1, FUR4, CAL1andL2B, respectively. Translation products of two other ORFs, YBR0308 and YBR0312 exhibit similarity to previously knownS. cerevisiaeproteins: the mitochondrially associated proteinSCO1and the protein kinase YKR2. The predicted protein product of the ORF YBR0321 shows a 41·6% identity score with theEscherichia colipyroxamine 5′‐phosphate oxidase. The nine other ORFs show no significant homology to known proteins. The sequence has been deposited in the EMBL data library under Accession Number X

摘要:
AbstractWe report the entire sequence of a 13·2 kb segment next to the left telomere of chromosome XI ofSaccharomyces cerevisiae. A 1·2 kb fragment near one end is 91% homologous to the right arm of chromosome III and 0·7 kb of that are 77% homologous to the right arm of chromosome V. Five open reading frames are included in the sequenced segment. Two of them are almost identical to the known YCR104W and YCR103C hypothetical proteins of chromosome III. A third one contains a region homologous to the Zn (2)‐Cys (6) binuclear cluster pattern of fungal transcriptional activators. The fourth one, part of which is similar to the mammalian putative transporter of mevalonate, has the structure of membrane transporters. The fifth one is similar to yeast ferric reductase. The sequence has been deposited in the EMBL data library under Accession Number X7
