摘要:
The following one-dimensional scalar equation arisingin the BGK model is studied. Methods of resolvent integration are used to obtain the so-called singular eigenfunction expansions for a certain Banach space of functions. Functional calculus for two related operators is then developed and application of this formalism is used to obtain solutions to the slip-flow problem.

摘要:
The neutron transport equation is shown to be analytically related to a quasi-simulation method called the Phase Space Time Evolution (PSTE) Technique. The analysis establishes the mathematical connection between two apparently different methods of treating particle/wave transport. With this relationship known, it is now possible to use quasi-simulation methods for nonphysical particles such as those which obey the adjoint transport equation.

摘要:
In one-speed neutron transport theory, it is shown that a fictitious anisotropic fission and scattering kernel with an extreme forward bias would give a critical slab thickness varying non-monotonically with anisotropy. For this particular kernel, the critical thickness increases first with increasing forward bias but decreases later and vanishes at a pertain critical anisotropy. This is a geometrical effect which may be understood by considering the variation of the angular distribution with effectively increasing multiplicity.

摘要:
We study a nonlinear initial-value problem arising from a Boltzmann-like model of vehicular traffic on highways. First, we show that such a problem has a unique strict solution u = u(t) that belongs to a suitable Banach space X0, provided that t ϵ [0,¯] with ¯ suitably chosen. Then, we prove that u(t) belongs to the closed positive cone X+0, if u0= u(0) belongs to a suitable subset of X+n. Finally, we evaluate a continuous nonnegative real function y(t), such that ‖u(t)‖ ≤ y(t) at any t ϵ [0, ¯].
