摘要:
The distribution of track lengths traversing a spherical shell has been calculated analytically when the source of the straight-line tracks is a symmetrically placed internal sphere emitting uniformly and isotropic ally, the source region being either opaque or transparent. Parametric plots are displayed.

摘要:
The Milne problem is studied for the case of, one-speed, time independent, plane symmetric Boltzmann equation, for which the scattering law is isotropic scattering with a backward leak. First of all, the new solution for the angular flux is expressed in terms of the solution of the Boltzmann equation with isotropic scattering. The expansion coefficients are determined by the resulting new boundary condition and orthogonality relations. The results for the expansion coefficients are given in the form of exact integral equations, but the numerical values for the extrapolated endpoint are obtained for the first order approximate coefficients. The variation of the extrapolated endpoint with β, the degree of backward anisotropy agrees in general with the previous findings.

摘要:
An elementary proof is given that the Wiener-Hoof factors of Fourier transforms of L1matrix-valued functions satisfy both linear and non-linear integral equations. The matrices need not be L2.

摘要:
The first of two papers in which a technique introduced by Resinous is used to obtain correlation function expressions for the coefficients of shear viscosity, thermal conductivity, and spin diffusion in normal liquid He3. The method involves matching the phenomenological and microscopic dispersion relations for hydrodynamic modes in the liquid. In this paper, the liquid is viewed as a system of two fluids with different spin components, and phenomenological expressions for the dispersion relations of the six hydrodynamic modes (spin is treated as a scalar) in the liquid are obtained.

摘要:
The second of two papers in which a technique introduced by Resibois is used to obtain correlation function expressions for the coefficients of shear viscosity, thermal conductivity and spin diffusion in normal liquid He3. The method involves matching the phenomenological and microscopic dispersion relations for hydro-dynamic modes in the liquid. In this paper, the liquid is viewed as a system of Landau quasi particles, and microscopic expressions for the dispersion relations of the six hydrodynamic modes in normal liquid He3are derived. Microscopic expressions are given for the speed of hydrodynamic sound, and the coefficients of shear viscosity, thermal conductivity, and spin diffusion.

摘要:
The authors of this report were priviledged to attend this conference, held in the beautiful hamlet of Oberwolfach, nestled in the Black Forest of Southwestern Germany, near Strasbourg, France. The German government sponsors 51 one-week meetings every year (only Christmas week is excluded) in a facility expressly designed for and devoted to meetings of mathematicians. Lodging and (delicious) meals are provided in a pleasant, modern guesthouse. In the adjacent buildings there are meeting rooms, a well equipped library, and recreational facilities such as billiards, table tennis and a music room supplied with enough instruments for a string quartet plus a stein way piano; yet, characteristically, there is no radio and no TV. The whole atmosphere is especially conducive to long leisurely scholarly discussions which, combined with the formal meetings, provide an outstanding opportunity to recharge the mental batteries along the lines of a rather specific mathematical topic. Any mathematically oriented reader who has never attended an Oberwolfach meeting should make every attempt to be invited to one, It will he lpto have a working knowledge of German language, as most of the conferences are conducted principally in that language. In this particular conference, however, most of the papers were presented in English, as a courtesy to the attending non-Germans.

摘要:
As the devoted reader of this journal is well aware, a conference on transport theory is held on the VPI&SU campus during the winters of odd-numbered years, reports on the past two conferences having been published in previous volumes.1,2This year's conference, according to the customary schedule, was of the “mini” variety, beginning Monday morning, February 28, and ending at noon on Wednesday, March 2. Some twenty-two persons participated with seventeen of them presenting papers, so the meeting was actually a little larger than the organizers—your authors—had anticipated. However, by-adhering carefully to the time limits for the presentations, there was still adequate, if not ample, time for discussion (and argument).
