Effects of low energy continuous waves laser light on the eye are outlined. Various entoptic images were studied with laser experiments on human and bovine eyes. From the results it is possible to identify and describe the ocular structures responsible for certain entopic images.

摘要:
This research was conducted to develop a binocular, corneal-reflection, vertical eyemovement transducer as well as real time computer methods for measuring the optical and time differences between the two eyes in ocular tracking. Records of binocular vertical eye movements obtained on five subjects indicated that effective recording of these movements could be secured with vertically arranged photoresistors which were fitted toa pair of goggles and arranged in a bridge circuit. The magnitude of successively recorded movements within a given calibrated trial varied within a range of about 10 percent of the calibrated ranges of 2.5 and 5 degrees, thus suggesting that, under optimal conditions, the precision of recording was one of degree of better. Preliminary measurement of indicated that in binocular vertical eye motion, the two eyes are not exactly conjugate in space of in time and that they vary in time by a very small value below 0.01 second. The real-time computer and programming methods which was developed may make possible new methods and concepts of dynamic diagnosis of coordinate binocular movements.

One eye for each of three patients was fitted with a contact lens and both eyes were clinically monitored. No significant keratometric change was found for the contralateral eye, but central corneal clouding and refractive changes were. The fitted eye (lens removed) had significant keratometric changes central corneal clouding, and refractive changes.

摘要:
The sensory mode “ease of seeing” was scaled by the technique of direct magnitude estimation. The derived scale is a power function of visual acuity measured with equity measured with equivalent stimulus values. These findings suggest that if visual acuity measurements are to be representative of the sensation “ease of seeing,” then the character sizes on visual test charts must be graded in a geometric progression of visual angle. A scale of visual utility is proposed in which it is possible to express changes in basic visual acuity measurements (e.g. Snellen fraction), in terms of multiples or fractions of unitary changes in visibility.

Overy 1,700 observations were made on the road involving actual pedestrians and cars to test three factors of pedestrian visibility. Of 26 pedestrian observers, ages 18–35, the one pedestrian most pessimistic about his visibility closely estimated his true visibility of 175 feet. Each of the remaining 25 pedestrians estimated his visibility to be up to three times farther than it actually was. The average pedestrian thought he was visible at 343 feet.Actual pedestrian visibility was enhanced from about 175 feet for normal dark clothing to about 790 feet by using reflectorized clothing. In the presence of headlight glare, black clothing was seen at about 167 feet while the reflectorized clothing was seen at 680 feet. The clothing was reflectonized with a 1“ fabric tape outlining the collar and wrapped around the sleeves. The reflectance of the tape was 50 candles/ft2/ft candle of incident light.

Measurements of oxygen tension in the tear reservoir of a corneal contact lens on a human eye were made over a series of blink frequencies. Comparisons between these laboratory observations and the theoretical model, which predicts the oxygen tension levels of such systems as they reach stability, are described.

This study involved evaluation of performance in each of the four lateral visual fields using 3-letter English words. A search was made for observable superiority of word recognition in any one of the fields or in their various combinations. Apparatus included a modified stereoscopic viewing device and tachistoscopic mechanism for a presenting targets in positions laterally displaced from the point of fixation at a typical reading distance. Subjects were 46 fifth grade elementary school children.A superiority of performance was found in the right binocular field as compared to the left, and in the total field of the left eye as compared to that of the right. Superiority of performance found in the nasal field of the left eye is apparently responsible for these differences. This evidence supports the position that the numerical superiority of nerve fibers servicing a given retinal locus and its associated visual field is not the responsible factor for superior performance in recognizing words, and that a learned post-exposural processing of information influenced by the nature of the stimulus-target is involved a what is perceived. A dominancy of the left cerebral hemisphere for word recognition and reading is also suggested.
