摘要:
First sexual intercourse is considered to be a major life transition, but it is not always a pleasurable experience, especially for females. The major purposes of this research were to examine gender differences in emotional reactions (pleasure, anxiety, and guilt) to first intercourse and to test possible explanations for these gender differences. Based on data collected from 1,659 college students who had had sexual intercourse, we found that men reported experiencing more pleasure and anxiety than did women, whereas men reported experiencing less guilt than did women. Men's greater subjective pleasure in response to first intercourse was explained, in part, by their greater likelihood of having an orgasm. Similar gender differences in emotional reactions were found regardless of the stage and length of the relationship in which first intercourse occurred; both genders reported more pleasure, more anxiety, and less guilt when sex occurred in a close relationship than in a casual one. However, continuing involvement in the relationship was associated with a pleasurable reaction for women. Other ways in which gender was related to the first intercourse experience are also presented.

摘要:
This study of 262 respondents from an organization for homosexual and bisexual foot fetishists provides information from a broader sample than clinical cases and was guided by major ideas found in the literature on sexual fetishism. Some researchers see fetishism as the product of early learning experiences. Results of this study showed such experiences to occur around puberty and to be predominantly positive. Sources of learning were experiences with their father, other male adults or older peers, and especially same‐age peers. Suggested conditions for learning, viz, restrictive sexual socialization and social isolation during adolescence, did not appear to be common occurrences. Other researchers see fetishism as a correlate of a particular personality profile. Results of this study showed that some respondents fit such a profile, but they were in the minority. Finally, how closely these men fit the profile was found to be unrelated to the salience of fetishism in their lives.

摘要:
In this study I explored how young women make interpretations about the implicit portion (i.e., the fade‐to‐black part) of an implicit sex act portrayed in an R‐rated movie clip. Undergraduate women (N= 39) were interviewed about their interpretations of an implicit sexual portrayal from a movie clip. Viewers used a variety of sexual schemata and scripts to interpret the sexual episode. For inferences regarding sexual intercourse, viewers mostly relied on their observations of sequences of verbal / behavior events that seemed to indicate that sexual intercourse had happened. For judgments about safer sexual behaviors, viewers tended to rely more on generalizations regarding personalities, goals, relationships, situations, and sexual behavior in real life and in the movies than on their observations of verbal/behavioral events. The results are discussed in terms of their implications for future media research in sexuality.

摘要:
In many studies, alcohol and drug use is clearly associated with behaviors that put individuals at risk for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). However, the nature of the association remains unclear. In this study we examined the relationship of condom use with substance use in adults with other sex partners (N= 508) who were seeking services in an STD clinic, engaged in high levels of risky sexual behaviors, and also engaged in high levels of alcohol and drug use with sex. We also compared the behaviors with steady and casual partners. We hypothesized that condom use would decrease with increasing levels of substance use with both partner types. That hypothesis was not supported: Condom use was not associated with substance use with either partner type. Although respondents reported significantly higher levels of substance use and intoxication with casual than with steady partners, they also reported significantly higher levels of condom use with casual partners. Interventions based on the assumption of a causal relationship between substance use and risky sex are not supported in this high risk heterosexual sample.

摘要:
Sexual coercion is a well‐recognized problem among heterosexuals, but it has been understudied in homosexual relationships and could be a contributing factor in risk for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. One hundred ninety‐six gay and bisexual men completed measures of sexual behavior history, sexual coercion experiences, psychological distress, and intentions to resist risk in the future. Results showed that 29% of participants (n= 57) reported being coerced into unwanted sexual contact; 92% of the time coercion involved unprotected anal intercourse. Rates of coercive behaviors paralleled those found among heterosexuals. Although scores for both groups generally fell within normal limits, coerced men were more depressed and had lower self‐esteem than noncoerced men, a finding also reflected among heterosexuals. Men in both groups generally reported intentions to reduce their risk for HIV infection, but men who had been coerced reported a lower likelihood of engaging in risk‐resistance behaviors in the future. Results show that HIV‐prevention interventions for gay and bisexual men should include intensive training in strategies to resist coercive sexual advances. However, further research is needed to identify the interpersonal characteristics of same‐sex relationships that influence sexual coercion.

摘要:
In this article I compare clinical opinion with empirical evidence of psychological harm associated with childhood exposure to parental nudity, parent‐child co‐sleeping, and scenes of parental sexuality (“primal scenes”). Exceedingly scant empirical data could be located. Only in the case of parent‐child co‐sleeping is there any suggestion in the empirical literature of associated harm, and this harm—sleep disturbance—may be an antecedent rather than a consequence of co‐sleeping. A unique in‐progress 18‐year longitudinal study of adjustment is also described.

摘要:
We describe social characteristics and sexual behavior of young, Black or White bisexually active men (N= 536, 52% Black, M age = 25). Bisexual activity appeared to be relatively stable over time: the recruitment criterion was any sex with a man and a woman in the previous three years, yet 60% were bisexually active during the past six months, and 56% began their bisexual activity at least five years prior to the study. Compared to Whites, Black respondents were more likely to self‐identify as bisexual, reported more female sex partners, and were less likely to have disclosed their bisexual activity to others. Few respondents participated in the gay community. Rates of unsafe sex were high: 31% reported unprotected anal intercourse with a man in the past six months, with no ethnic differences. Blacks reported more unprotected sex with women and were more likely to exchange sex for money. Of the men who had been HTV tested (74%), 10.5% of Blacks and 2.9% of Whites were HIV seropositive. The sexual risk of bisexual men was high, yet their lack of participation in gay culture made them unlikely to be reached by prevention programs within the gay community. Bisexually active Black men may be at greater risk of both acquiring and transmitting HTV because of the higher seroprevalence of HTV in this population, higher likelihood of unprotected sex with both men and women, and associated risk factors, such as exchanging sex for money or drugs.
