摘要:
If sexual science is to advance, sexual scientists must strategically analyze critical issues and strategically plan their future. Four critical issues must be solved: (a) increasing recognition, (b) developing scientists, (c) securing resources, and (d) reducing sex‐negative bias. The strategy for the overall direction of sexual science is determined by prioritizing strategic areas. The driving force—the principle criterion for planning and decision‐making—of sexual science is:technology—broadly conceived as a scholarly body of knowledge, reproducible and subject to frequent updating and extension through scientific research. In the past, members’needswere the driving force of organizations like the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex. However, if sexual science is to advance, sexual scientists must recognize that their central purpose is the advancement of sexual knowledge. The mission of sexual science is: (a) to advance scientific knowledge of human sexuality, (b) to develop sexual scientists, and (c) to promote human welfare. Scientific theories and knowledge provide the foundation for educational and clinical applications by sexologists. Advancing scientific knowledge of sexuality must become a preeminent vision shared by all scientists and professionals to become a reality.

摘要:
This paper presents a preliminary mathematical model of transmission of the HIV virus from a sexually active prostitute to her clients, and the transmission from those clients to their sexual partners. The final link in the chain is transmission from pregnant mothers to their fetuses. The goal of the study is to determine the effect that a single‐infected, very sexually active prostitute can have on a population of other uninfected adults. Assuming values for the probability of transmission at each sexual encounter and a model for client repeaters, we show that in five years, a single prostitute could be expected to infect about 20 men and about 0.8 unborn children.

摘要:
A scale designed to measure attraction to sexual aggression is described, based on earlier work assessing self‐reported likelihood of committing rape. This scale's associations with measures of theoretically relevant attitudes, perceptions, and behavioral inclinations are examined in comparison with briefer measures, and with a number of other scales measuring attraction to various types of sexual interactions. These include conventional sex (e.g., heterosexual intercourse), homosexuality, bondage, unconventional sex (e.g., group sex), and deviant sex (e.g., pedophilia). Data supporting the longer and shorter versions of the attraction to sexual aggression scale are presented, showing internal consistency, test‐retest reliability, and discriminant and construct validity. As well, a number of issues raised by critiques of research in this area are addressed empirically.

摘要:
This article reviews experimental studies conducted since the 1970 pornography commission that have tested the effects of exposure to sexually explicit materials on attitudes and perceptions about rape. Studies ofshort‐termexposure to nonaggressive sexually explicit communications have yielded mixed results. When effects do exist for this material, they are both fewer and weaker than antisocial effects from sexuallyviolentmaterial. Studies of the effects oflong‐termexposure to nonviolent pornography have also yielded mixed results—some experiments finding increases in negative attitudes about rape, others showing no effects. However, one finding is consistent for both long‐and short‐term studies. Those that have included violent (slasher) film conditions have consistently found less sensitivity toward rape victims after exposure to these materials. The remainder of the paper is devoted to contradictions between the outcomes of long‐term studies and their possible solution.

摘要:
It has been proposed that a traditional feminine gender role can influence how effectively a woman deals with unwanted sexual experiences. For example, passivity and nurturance might prohibit effective coping with unwanted sexual activity by leading a woman to blame herself and to continue in an adversarial sexual relationship. Thus, the present investigation was designed to examine women's responses and reactions to unwanted sexual episodes, including both normative and individual coping strategies. Situational, general coping, and individual difference variables were also examined. The results indicated that most episodes of unwanted sex involved a couple who knew each other at least moderately well. It was also determined that situational variables were the best predictors of women's reactions to unwanted sexual attempts. Generally, women responded passively to such attempts and responded to attack with self‐blame and continuance of adversarial dating relationships. The implications of these findings for communication, education, and sexual relationships were discussed.

摘要:
Heterosexual and homosexual males who erotically preferred physically mature partners were compared with respect to the erotic impact of the nonpreferred age groups (of the preferred gender) and the nonpreferred gender. Erotic impact was assessed by phallometric test of erotic gender and age preferences. This measures penile volume changes during the presentation of potentially erotic stimuli. Homosexual males who preferred physically mature partners responded no more to male children than heterosexual males who preferred physically mature partners responded to female children. Although heterosexual males showed a (slight) erotic aversion to the male stimuli, and homosexual males did not show an aversion to the female stimuli, this difference was minimal.

摘要:
Numerous studies have documented the prevalence of forced sex in heterosexual couples. Positive effects of this research include increases in awareness about the problem among helping professionals and the public, as well as increases in support services and prevention programs. However, no research has been done on sexual coercion in gay male and lesbian relationships, and few support services exist. Therefore, this study is an investigation of the prevalence and correlates of coercive sex in gay male and lesbian relationships. Participants were 36 women and 34 men who were in gay or lesbian relationships. The results indicated that 12% of the gay men and 31% of the lesbians reported being victims of forced sex by their current or most recent partners. The higher reporting rate among women may be due to greater awareness of issues pertaining to sexual abuse, and greater likelihood of identifying various forms of coercion as force. For men, being a victim of forced sex was generally associated with being a victim of other forms of violence. For both sexes, victims of forced sex believed that it would be relatively difficult to get counseling. Implications for support services are discussed.
