摘要:
AbstractThis study tested the hypothesis that increasing levels of acute alcohol intoxication are related to systematic changes in female orgasmic experience reflected by physiological, behavioral, and cognitive indices. Using a repeated measures design with monthly experimental sessions, each of 18 university women were sustained at four different blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) in counterbalanced order prior to viewing sexually explicit videotapes and engaging in masturbation to orgasm. Measures of vaginal blood volume obtained by means of a vaginal photoplethysmograph and complemented by a behavioral latency measure showed a progressive and systematic depressant effect of alcohol on orgasmic responding. Higher BACs were associated with longer orgasmic latencies and decreased subjective intensity of orgasm, while, paradoxically, women reported significantly greater sexual arousal and orgasmic pleasurability under conditions of moderate and high alcohol intoxication. Results have implications for treatment and prevention of alcohol‐induced orgasmic dysfunction, and the data suggest that women's orgasm will occur more readily under conditions of no alcohol consumption. Modest intake of alcohol, however, may be expected to result in greater feelings of sexual arousal, a more enjoyable orgasmic experience, and only a moderate increase in the time it takes to reach orgasm.

摘要:
AbstractThis study was designed to determine whether or not equity considerations are important in couples' sexual relations. To answer this question, 53 newlywed couples were interviewed about their sexual relationships. Two main hypotheses were tested: (a) Men and women who feel their relationships are equitable will be more content (less distressed) than people who feel either overbenefited or underbenefited. (b) Men and women who feel equitably treated will have more satisfying sexual relations than those who feel either underbenefited or overbenefited. Some support for both hypotheses was obtained. Specifically, couples in equitable relationships were more content with their relationships and with their lives in general than other couples. In addition, equitably treated men and women were more satisfied with their sexual relationshipsoverallthan were other couples. They felt most loving and close after sex and assumed their partner felt that way too. While equitable couples did not say they felt more satisfied immediately after a sexual encounter than did other couples, they believed their partners were unusually satisfied. Reasons why these findings, though providing some support for the equity paradigm, must be interpreted with caution are discussed.

摘要:
AbstractBased on the observation by Kinsey, Pomeroy, Martin, and Gebhard (1953) that most women who make more than desultory attempts at masturbation achieve orgasm, it was hypothesized that in preorgasmic women's groups, time spent on masturbatory homework assignments would be positively related to orgasmic outcome. For 14 participants in preorgasmic women's groups, time spent practicing assignments was compared with orgasmic status at the end of therapy. Correlations among time records made at time of therapy, therapists' recollections at time of follow‐up, and subjects' recollections at follow‐up ranged from .85 to .93. A point‐biserialrof .88 (p<.001) was found between time spent on homework assignments and orgasmic status at the end of therapy. Results are consistent with those of Kinsey et al. (1953) and McMullen and Rosen (1979). Equivalence of the latters' two experimental groups is speculatively reinterpreted as due to similarity of videotape and written instructions in motivating performance of masturbatory assignments.

摘要:
AbstractThis study was an exploratory investigation of the relationship between physical exercise and sexual behavior. It was hypothesized that self‐report of increased time spent in physical exercise would be associated with a higher self‐reported frequency of sexual behavior and frequency of desired sexual activity. An anonymous questionnaire was given to a sample of undergraduates (N= 78) and a sample of persons(N= 144) walking through a fieldhouse/classroom complex at Indiana University. Pearson correlational analysis of each sample supported the hypotheses (p<.001). Further investigation via a more comprehensive questionnaire or a factorial design study was discussed.

摘要:
AbstractThe expectations of 229 college students about sexual activity during each decade from age 20 to age 80 were assessed. Approximately half of the subjects made estimations of their parents' intercourse frequency during these age periods; the remainder estimated married couples“on the average.”All subjects filled out the Profile of Mood States (POMS) immediately after estimating sexual activity. Results indicated that, in all decades but the 70's and 80's, subjects who estimated intercourse frequencies for their parents reported significantly lower means than the group who estimated married couples on the average. Subjects who estimated parental intercourse were significantly more anxious and depressed on the POMS than subjects who estimated married couples on the average. Effects for confusion and hostility were in the same direction but of borderline significance. There was also a dramatic main effect for age, with subjects expecting a steep linear decreasing pattern for intercourse frequency with age. Results are discussed in terms of normative data on sexual activity and in comparison to earlier research which examined only expectations about parental intercourse frequencies.

摘要:
AbstractThe sexological examination of the female patient, as performed in our Center, has proved to be an essential and almost indispensable diagnostic and therapeutic tool for the treatment of female sexual dysfunction. When performed by an adequately trained gyneco‐sexologist, in the presence of the patient's sexual partner (if available), this examination helps the patient to proceed through the process of gradually assuming self‐responsibility in searching and feeling for her specific“sexual nerve endings,”also enhancing communication between the spouses. The format and technique of the“female sexological examination”is described and the scientific background, indications, results, and reservations are discussed. Special emphasis is placed on the personnel who should carry out such an examination.
