摘要:
The appearance of gallium-67 images in bone infarction was studied in nine patients with sickle cell disease and correlated with the bone scan findings. Gallium uptake in acute infarction was decreased or absent with a variable bone scan uptake, and normal in healing infarcts, which showed increased uptake on bone scan. The significance of these findings is discussed.

摘要:
Hepatobiliary imaging was performed in a woman who, at subsequent surgery, was found to have gallstone ileus due to a large gallstone obstructing the proximal jejunum. The triad of findings (failure of the radiopharmaceutical to pass beyond the point of obstruction, marked reflux into the stomach, and nonvisualization of the gallbladder) is nonspecific but, in the appropriate clinical setting, should suggest the possibility of gallstone ileus.

摘要:
Patients having lobar airway obstruction or consolidation usually have decreases of both ventilation and perfusion on lung scans. We report three patients in whom hypoxic vasoconstriction was apparently incomplete, resulting in a “reversed” ventilation-perfusion mismatch. Perfusion of the hypoxic lobe on the radionuclide scan was associated with metabolic alkalosis, pulmonary venous and pulmonary arterial hypertension in these patients.

摘要:
A bronchopleural fistula in a patient with empyema was demonstrated by xenon-133 ventilation lung scanning. Because of its ease and simplicity, the ventilation study should be one of the first diagnostic tests performed when bronchopleural fistula is suspected.

摘要:
A case of pneumothorax diagnosed by ventilation-perfusion lung scintigraphy is reported. The diagnosis was not suspected clinically initially and a chest x-ray taken before the lung scan was also interpreted as normal.

摘要:
The first clinically and biochemically documented case of recurrent thyrotoxicosis after I-131 induced hypothyroidism in a patient with Graves' disease is reported. Two months after the administration of 9.2 mCi of I-131, the subject developed hypothyroidism. One month later, the patient became euthyroid. Then, nine months following ablation, the patient again developed thyrotoxicosis. A second dose of I-131 of 12.5 mCi was required to finally produce permanent hypothyroidism. This case illustrates the recurrence of hypothyroidism after what had seemed to have been adequate I-131 radiation.

摘要:
Two patients are reported who presented with clinical hyperthyroidism, increased serum thyroid function studies, and depressed radioactive iodine uptake, secondary to chronic ingestion of D-T4. Symptoms abated, and function studies returned to normal, following discontinuation of D-T4. This uncommon effect of D-T4 may be more prevalent than is generally realized and must be recognized as another potential cause of low radioiodine uptake in patients with clinical hyperthyroidism.

摘要:
A case report is presented describing a 27-year-old woman with invasive trophoblastic hydatidiform mole metastatic to the lung. Gamma scintiscanning, using a polyclonal and monoclonal antibody specific to human chorionic gonadotropin, hCG, and labeled with Tc-99m, is described. The area of the primary lesion in the uterus was demonstrated with both antibodies tested without computer subtraction techniques; metastatic deposits in the lung were detected only with the aid of blood pool subtraction techniques.

摘要:
Diffuse abdominal localization of gallium was found in two patients with peritonitis, one due to M. tuberculosis and the other presumably pyogenic. Gallium scanning may be useful in the diagnosis of peritonitis and perhaps of other serosal infections.

摘要:
The activity of P-32 removed during leukapheresis of a patient previously administered P-32 for therapy of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) was determined. The bremsstrahlung produced by P-32 beta rays in the pheresis bags allowed the quantitation of radioactivity by well counting in a sodium iodide detector and by a gamma camera. Bremsstrahlung counting demonstrated that leukapheresis removes such a small amount of radioactivity that the therapeutic effect of a previously administered P-32 dose was still valid. Bremsstrahlung counting offers advantages to a Nuclear Medicine Department over the conventional use of a liquid scintillation counter to detect P-32 beta rays in that it is simpler and more readily available.
