摘要:
Water supply systems in industrial, commercial, and dwelling buildings are usually equipped with constant speed pumps that give approximately constant pressure while the water flow variations exist. Most of the pumps have noticeable pressure surpluses. All that leads to extra energy consumption, and in some cases to increased water and heat leakages.

摘要:
The energy issue is becoming a determining factor in the living standards of individuals as well as societies. The increasing demand for increased productivity, improved quality of products/services, reduced environmental emissions, and reduced energy costs are all incentives for organizations to invest in and implement new energy efficiency technologies and management approaches. This necessitates a collective effort towards the efficient and wise utilization of all energy resources. This article introduces the concept of total productive energy management (TPEM). This approach would require the involvement of all members of a facility to take part in energy conservation activities in their facility by being responsible for the management of energy systems in the space(s) they occupy and/or the equipment they operate. Top management commitment, incentives to employees, and continuous training are the means of implementing such an approach in organizations. This approach will help implant the awareness and commitment to energy conservation on all levels, therefore saving money and protecting the environment.

摘要:
This article describes the methodology and results of the Rational Use of Energy Program carried out in 29 industries in Medellín, Colombia. Higher energy savings than the ones expected were found in the companies audited. Potential savings are around 24 percent in thermal energy, 11.4 percent in electricity, and 29 percent in electric peak shaving. Recommended actions included adequate operation of processes and equipment, satisfactory maintenance practices, and the implementation of new technologies. An important result is that about 50 percent of all savings could be carried out without investment. A strategic plan has been developed to verify the implementation of the recommendations and the achievement of the improvements. The program was carried out by the Energy and Thermodynamics Group of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, a research center similar in its functions and structure to the Industrial Assessment Centers in the U.S.A. The program was sponsored by Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) Medellín's public utility, and the industries grouped in the Asocilación Nacional de Industriales (ANDI), the national association of industries.

摘要:
The given article considers the possibility of equalizing fluctuating peak periodic load schedules by means of controlled superconducting inductive energy accumulators. Calculation program has been elaborated: accumulator inductance, converter parameters, converter control law. The program takes into account maneuverable possibilities of the power system, adjusting possibilities of a converter, and superconducting properties of energy accumulator winding. The calculation is carried out for cases of sudden start-up, unlimited in duration operation with the preset periodic schedule, and sudden outage of fluctuating load.

摘要:
Aprospectus to establish an electric bus route in Mexico City as a joffort between the National University of Mexico, the Mexico City government, and a local manufacturer is presented. The general design characteristics of the vehicles which are to be manufactured locally are presented. A financial analysis to estimate the economic feasibility of the proposal has been carried out. The efficiency and emissions to the atmosphere attributable to the electric buses are compared with petrol powered buses of the same capacity which are used extensively at present. The results show that from the technical, economic, and environmental points of view, the project is feasible and appears profitable. A prototype bus ready for evaluation will start operation in July of 1999.

摘要:
Investment in monitoring systems can be used towards the reduction of the maintenance cost of modem plants. Sensors and instrumentation, which record variables describing performance, vibrations, and other process parameters, have granted new opportunities in the design of trend-monitoring systems. These systems can be used toward scheduling of maintenance without impacting planned production schedules. Further, by monitoring these variables to provide information about the changing life expectancy, maintenance engineers can base service on actual field conditions, rather than relying solely on standard machine life estimates. Moreover, these systems can increase the overall efficiency by reducing energy consumption.
