摘要:
This paper reports on ten cases in which treatment began with conventional sex therapy and was later modified by incorporating techniques of psychodynamic couple therapy. While the modifications initially led to symptom reversal, the reversal of symptoms activated a recycling sequence of relapses and renewed symptom reversals, ultimately terminating in treatment failure. While the ten couples were heterogeneous in many respects, they did form a distinct clinical group. In common, they demonstrated a set of characteristics laced with hate, love and dependency, which interacted to create what the authors have called “therapeutic gridlock” and “interminable” sex

摘要:
Emerging from the growing trend toward integration in the field of psychotherapy, Integrative Problem‐Centered Therapy (IPCT) provides a model for applying different modalities (individual and family) and orientations (behavioral, communicational and psychodynamic) to the broad range of problems patients bring to psychotherapy. Based on the assumption that each modality and orientation possesses its own domain of expertise, IPCT attempts to interrelate the major modalities and orientations to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. The goal is to create a maximally effective and efficient problem‐centered psychotherapy. This paper presents an overview of IPCT, delineating its core principles and premises as well as the basic methodological steps in I

摘要:
The difficulties involved in evaluating family therapists or family therapy training are evidenced by the virtual absence of instruments to guide such evaluations. This paper describes the product‐in‐progress of the authors' struggle with these difficulties; an instrument consisting of a videotape of an enacted family therapy first session and a series of multiple‐choice questions regarding the respondents' observations, conceptualizations and recommendations about the tape. It is hoped that the instrument itself as well as the description of the process of its development will be of heuristic value to the family therapy

摘要:
This article reports the development of a scale for evaluating family therapist skills. The scale includes ten items within each of five skill categories. All items were found to discriminate significantly between videotaped segments of effective and ineffective family therapist skills. Also all skill categories discriminated significantly between experienced and inexperienced family therapists. The interrater reliability and internal consistency of the categories were also judged to be acceptable. Suggestions are presented for uses of the scale in therapist training research.

摘要:
This paper addresses a number of clinical and methodological issues that have arisen in conducting the Marital Systems Study, a research project evaluating the efficacy of systems‐oriented conjoint treatment with couples in which one spouse is abusing alcohol. These include: (1) standardizing and monitoring the intervention; (2) developing and maintaining an interactional perspective on the alcohol‐related difficulties; (3) selecting an appropriate control group; (4) offering conjoint treatment as the primary therapeutic intervention; and (5) developing comprehensive, valid and reliable assessment/follow‐up procedures. The manner in which the Marital Systems Study has attempted to resolve these important issues, rather than the outcomes emerging from the study, constitutes the focus of this

摘要:
The authors report a case of multiple personality in which therapy was directed at the marital couple, rather than focusing on the multiple personality per se. The symptoms of the individual are seen as a disturbance in the family homeostasis and were treated from that standpoint. The functions of the symptom in the areas of impulse discharge, superego operation, boundaries of closeness‐distance, and self‐object representations for the couple and family are discus

摘要:
This paper suggests conjoint reading aloud as an initial assignment in behavioral marital therapy. The spouses are directed to read a book on marital conflict and communication five times during the week following the initial interview. At that interview they negotiate an agreement on when they will do the reading. Conjoint reading is compared with two alternative initial assignments, Caring Days and the Spouse Observation Checklist. It is argued that the advantage of the conjoint reading is that it addresses the experientially salient problems of verbal conflict. Details for instigating the assignment are presented.

摘要:
The purposes of the present study were to (1) provide descriptive normative data on the incidence of primary dyadic relationships in non‐clinical families; (2) test the hypothesis that children from a marital relationship‐primary family are better adjusted than those with a primary non‐marital dyad; and (3) examine sex‐linked effects within both areas. A sample of late adolescent college students was interviewed concerning family relationship patterns. Males most often perceived the mother‐father dyad as primary, whereas females most often reported the mother‐child dyad as the primary relationship in the family. Support was obtained for the adjustment hypothesis by data from females, but not males. Girls from families with a marital dyad‐primary were better adjusted than girls from families with a non‐marital dyad‐primary. Sex‐linked effects associated with structural family relations, such as the greater salience of the marital coalition for daughters than sons, are discussed, and some clinical implications of the fin
