摘要:
This report presents salient issues for therapists in understanding and treating the remarried (Rem, second, blended, reconstituted or step) family. The structure of the remarried family is differentiated from that of the intact family. Specific treatment goals for Rem families are elaborated and various treatment modalities advocated. The need to include former spouses and to consider the meta family system are discussed. Common reactions and difficulties engendered in therapists when working with Rem systems are explicated.

摘要:
Divorce, if properly orchestrated by a specially trained therapist, can be a liberating experience that promotes, rather than undermines, family solidarity. Of course, a happy marriage is preferable to an amicable divorce, but some marriages are beyond repair. Gross incompatibility often leads to “emotional blackmail” and other coercive states within an unhappy marriage. The present paper, through the use of several case histories, addresses the foregoing issues and also delineates effective marital therapy strategies. The rationale and implementation of creative divorce counseling is also descri

摘要:
The demands upon clinicians, teachers and researchers in the family therapy field all point to the need for clear descriptions of conceptual orientations and the specifics of the therapy process. The model presented in this article grew out of research and clinical work which led to a shift in focus from specific therapist interventions to the major steps in the overall treatment process. The major stages of Assessment, Contracting, Treatment and Closure each contain a sequence of sub‐steps. Each step is operationally described and has clear objectives which facilitate open collaboration between therapist and family, and provide the family with a problem solving model. The model developed in the context of short term and focused clinical work. It offers a guide for the basic treatment approach to be used by beginners as well as the foundation and infrastructure for the work of advanced therapist

摘要:
A self‐discovery hypothesis regarding changing family dysfunctioning is suggested. From this hypothesis a method for treatment called Graphic Family Therapy has been developed. The four stages of this design—Analysis, Motivation, Evaluation and Research—are discussed. Specific graphic exercises for eight categories of family dysfunction are described. Two illustrative cases, one long‐term and one short‐term, are presented. Conclusions regarding results, future research, training and other clinical applications ar

摘要:
The only child and his or her parents may have special problems when it comes to settling the issues of parent‐child identification and attachment. Children, regardless of birth order or number of siblings, cope more easily with the developmental tasks of the oedipal period if there is not pressure to remain loyal to just one of the parental pair. The child without siblings and his/her parents face a continuing oedipal triangle unless the parents maintain a comfortable and united partnership at best, or at least are able to encourage independence in the chil

摘要:
PAIR, acronym for Personal Assessment of Intimacy in Relationships, was developed as a tool for educators, researchers and therapists. PAIR provides systematic information on five types of intimacy: emotional, social, sexual, intellectual and recreational. Individuals, married or unmarried, describe their relationship in terms of how they currently perceive it (perceived) and how they would like it to be (expected). PAIR can be used with couples in marital therapy and enrichment groups.

摘要:
This study reports on the relationship of the initial attracting quality to the present most annoying quality between spouses in a sample of 30 men and 30 women married (not to each other) from two to eight years. The initial attracting quality (Virtue) and the most annoying quality at present (Vice) were assessed by questionnaire and interview and sorted into one of five categories based on Norman's (1963) five personality factor system. The findings suggest that the initial attracting quality and the most annoying quality at present are related in that the latter is an exaggeration, implication or the opposite of the former.

摘要:
Pre‐marital counseling purports to help clients discover and challenge unrealistic expectations they may have for themselves and for one another. Rational‐Emotive Therapy (RET) is ideally suited to locating and correcting irrational thoughts that precipitate personal and interpersonal conflict. In order to demonstrate the utility of RET pre‐marital counseling, this article presents examples of specific irrational beliefs which clinicians can use to help couples develop and maintain intimacy with minimal conflict. Mental health practitioners are encouraged to apply these principles to other specific irrationalities they may discover in their own work exper

摘要:
The institutional sources of all articles published in the three major marriage and family therapy journals through 1978 are identified. The journals reviewed include: Family Process, Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, and theAmerican Journal of Family Therapy. While no single center emerges as dominating the published family therapy literature, a small number of institutions clearly have exerted a profound impact on the literature of the field. Moreover, the absolute number of centers influencing the field is rapidly increasing, and these centers are becoming particularly influential in the newer journals in the field.
