摘要:
Making healthy food choices can be challenging for individuals with diabetes. However, nutrition education and counseling can help people understand how food affects their blood glucose level. Education also helps them to understand how the diet for diabetes has changed to include more carbohydrate-based foods than in the past. We now know that no single diet works to treat all people with diabetes; instead, diets should be individualized to meet the unique needs of each person. A variety of meal-planning approaches can be used to fit the lifestyle, food preferences, and learning needs of different individuals. Health professionals and dietitians need to strive to encourage people with diabetes to use tailored meal plans as an effective part of their diabetes self-management plan.

摘要:
Case managers are in prime positions that enable them to implement initiatives, which may lead to evidence-based practice. The possibilities abound regardless of the setting; case managers are charged with the delivery of patient care in the most efficient manner. When the best care is given to patients within the shortest time frame, everyone benefits—the patients and their families, case managers and other staff, and the entire organization. The various tools used to coordinate patient care—protocols and pathways—can be readily used to collect data in a standard way; this is a vital step in initiating evidence-based practice. Initiatives leading to evidence-based practice require several phases: obtaining evidence, monitoring the use of evidence, and evaluating the use of evidence in practice. This article will describe the use of evidence-based practice for case managers and demonstrate the steps to ensuring successful implementation in patient care activities.

摘要:
Education in leadership principles is included in Master’s Degree programs for nurse practitioners (NPs). NPs have an opportunity to be leaders in a variety of roles and to make major decisions within their profession and within the healthcare system. NPs’ collaboration with nursing professionals, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals—including clients and families—demonstrate their expanded practice. The purpose of this study was to examine perceptions of leadership by Master’s-prepared NPs and determine if they are providing leadership in practice. There has been minimal research to evaluate whether NPs graduating from Master’s programs are effectively using leadership skills in their practice. Master’s Degree education has a strong focus on leadership and, combined with the need for lower cost of healthcare, NPs have the potential to provide important leadership and cost savings to the healthcare delivery system.

摘要:
The purpose of this article is to review the problems and processes impacting the deviation in first-case actual start times when compared to first-case scheduled start times. This article will also discuss the Continuous Outcomes Measurement and Improvement Technique (COMIT) model for problem resolution and share the experiences encountered by a group of collaborative nurse manager leaders in their outcome improvement efforts. The overall process improvements are discussed using the eight-step COMIT model, which showed the overall success of the project.
