摘要:
This paper, the second in a series concerned with family therapy in cases involving children at risk of abuse, focuses on how to establish a workable relationship between therapists and child protection professionals and child protection professionals and parents. After overviewing the difficulties faced by therapists in working with ‘the Welfare', we propose guidelines to overcoming common obstacles to successful case management, concluding that therapy often fails when therapists attempt to deal with intrafamilial issues long before external relationships are resolve

摘要:
Working with adults who have been sexually abused in childhood can be a daunting task. The material disclosed is often overwhelming in its detail and horror and the consequences for the client are alarming. The folio wing paper offers a method for approaching the individual adult client who presents such abuse as part of their history. It provides a comprehensive set of guidelines for the practitioner both to explore and face the reality of abuse while not becoming immobilised by horror and impotence. Case examples are used to illustrate the application of the method.

摘要:
This paper, a plenary address to the Australian Family Therapy Conference, is concerned with the role of family therapy in society and the abuse of professional power. It is argued that family therapy is part of the medicalisation of marriage and the family, through which problems are defined—often inappropriately—as relationship problems and experts (therapists) are created. Aspects of professional power are identified; its pursuit is not in the interests of families, especially those with greatest needs. Proposals to tackle these obstacles are made regarding practice and training in therapy, and the management of professional po

摘要:
The Premarital Assessment Program for premarital counselling (Buckner&Salts, 1985) was implemented to evaluate its potential for enhancing positive growth with premarital individuals. Twenty‐one engaged couples were assigned to one of three groups, an experimental group that received the Premarital Assessment Program (PAP), an experimental group that received segments of the Couples Communication Program combined with a modified Premarital Assessment Program (CCPAP), or to a control group that received no treatment. Prior to the treatment period all individuals were administered a pretest which contained demographic questions, the Marital Communication Inventory (MCI), and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS). Following the treatment, all individuals were administered a post‐test containing the MCI, DAS, and an open‐ended question pertaining to their treatment experience. Both treatment groups showed improvement on the DAS total score and one of its subscales compared to the control group, although this change only reached statistical significance between the CCPAP group and the control groups. Further assessment is needed of the value of communication training in premarital counse

摘要:
The role of the receptionist in the intake/therapeutic process has been largely ignored in the literature. However this role has been demonstrated in practice to have considerable importance. On the one hand an administrative position, the receptionist in a counselling agency is also required to talk with and to some extent “manage” people in crisis, elicit some information and yet not get into the client's request in detail. It is argued that because of these additional, specialised, potentially stressful tasks, the role and training of receptionists in counselling agencies should be reconsidered. Given the recent introduction of the Training Guarantee Legislation (1990), the welfare sector now has the opportunity to re‐assess carefully the training and support needs of reception staff with a view to improving the counselling service as a

摘要:
Young people's behaviours which are problematic to parents and therapists are also found in the wider adult community. Here these behaviours are often accepted as normal and legitimate, and as such they may occur even in the lives of these same parents and therapists. This paper considers some of the issues this raises in working with young people and their families.
