摘要:
The interface region of a steady-state methane-air flame near a cooled, moving wall has been studied using laser spectroscopy in conjunction with a theoretical analysis. Theory and experiment are qualitatively similar for the methane concentration profile parallel to and 100 μm from the wall. Both show rapid methane decay with the experimental decay being weakly dependent on wall speed. The quantitative discrepancies between theory and experiment are most likely due to the overly simple one-step reaction mechanism used in the theory. Species diffusion is found to be an important effect in fuel decay near cooled walls.

摘要:
Results have been reported recently suggesting that the use of a platinum-coated combustion chamber would significantly reduce gaseous and particulate emissions in a diesel engine. To examine these claims, a single-cylinder version of a conventional automotive diesel engine was tested with and without a platinum coating. For all conditions tested, application of the coating resulted in no significant changes in NOx, CO, HC or particulate emissions.

摘要:
Experimental studies were carried out on turbulences in open premixed jet flames by using a double coaxial type burner with propane-air mixtures. Shadow and schlieren graphs showed that low frequency oscillations of the flame occur in the vicinity of the boundary between the outer flame and the surrounding air stream. The phenomena are surely caused by the hydrodynamic instability and it was also asserted from the fact that the phenomena could never be seen in the case of the surrounding flow velocity being large enough in measurement by a counter-type laser doppler velocimeter (LDV). Moreover, the organized motion with periodic vortices was entirely common in premixed, rich-premixed, and diffusion flames in the open atmosphere. The normalized frequencies had a tendency similar to the results obtained by some workers

摘要:
The reduction of NO by N generated from a stream of N2by a novel design of plasma jet is studied with particular reference to the energy requirement and the efficiency of the process. An analysis of the thermodynamics shows that the absolute maximum efficiency—in the absence of heat losses, recombination, etc— is about 68 per cent at a specific enthalpy of 1.2 MJ mol−1of Na (approx. 8,500 K) giving a minimum requirement of approx. 0.9 percent of the heat of combustion released for every 1000 ppm NO to be removed from the products of combustion of a typical hydrocarbon. Similar calculations for argon/nitrogen mixtures show that, while the efficiency is always somewhat reduced, optimum values should be attainable at very much lower specific enthalpies for appreciable dilution by a monatomtc carrier gas.

摘要:
Measurements of mean value and turbulent intensity of fluctuating velocity as well as fluctuating temperature have been made on a turbulent boundary layer diffusion flame over a flat plate. Results show that the turbulence production occurs along the flame zone. This behavior is reflected in the high gradient of mean velocity. That is, the variation of velocity fluctuation due to the flame is primarily attributed to the variation of the mean velocity profile. Therefore it can be concluded that an ordinary shear-generated turbulence plays an important role on turbulence in the whole region of the boundary layer. Results also show that the temperature fluctuation is attributed to the gradient of mean temperature in a turbulent flow. At the same time, the temperature fluctuation in the air stream side is intensified due to the penetration of room temperature gases into the burnt gas region.

摘要:
Laminar diffusion flames in counterfiow configurations such as stagnation-point boundary layers are analyzed by methods of matched asymptotic expansions with large parameters being the temperature sensitivities of the rates of chemical heat generation and radiant heat loss. Formulas are derived defining critical conditions for flame extinction, including influences of radiant loss.

摘要:
Formation of benzaldehyde and benzoic acid have been observed during the slow decomposition of polystyrene/ammonium perchlorale propellant. This has been attributed to the formation of polystyrene peroxide intermediate which on decomposition gives the above producis. The chemical scheme for the formation of polystyrene peroxide has been presented.
