ABSTRACTThe relationships among leadership, structural and demographic variables in fast‐food restaurants were studied in a sample taken from a midsize city. The findings indicated the existence of two parallel styles of leadership: supervisor's ideal (prescriptive) style and his/her actual style. The two styles depicted distinctly different relations with various structural and demographic characteristics. The findings also signaled the possibility of the existence of an optimum staff size as well as an optimum leadership style. The results suggested that the choice of the supervisory style was a function of some demographic characteristics such as supervisor's age and work experienc
