摘要:
Partial pulmonary valvectomy was performed in 19 dogs. No change in pulmonary arterial pulse pressure was seen when less than one valvular cusp was removed; frequently no change was observed when an entire cusp was removed. Widening of the pulmonary arterial pulse pressure could be produced byremovalof more than one cusp or by inducing pulmonary hypertension after removal of only one cusp. Observation as long as six months postoperatively revealed no evidence of right ventricular failure resulting from the operation.

摘要:
The areas of the cat's common carotid arteries, where baroceptor activity, similar to that in the carotid sinus, has recently been discovered, have been examined histologically; the nervous structures observed were similar to those in the carotid sinus and Nonidez' area. Additional information regarding the characteristic histology of these structures is presented.

摘要:
The cardiovascular effects of the transfusion of human blood and of some of its components were studied in dogs. Human blood, hemoglobin, globin and red cell stroma produced significant circulatory depression. The reaction to stromal materials was considered to represent a combination of peripheral pooling and myocardial depression. The reactions to human hemoglobin and globin indicated primary vasoconstriction as the initial abnormality. The reaction to human blood, apparently, was a combination of the reactions to stroma and hemoglobin, with an anaphylactoid response after second blood transfusions.

摘要:
Data are presented which indicate that, even in pressure ranges well above critical closing pressures, transmural pressure is an important factor in determining systemic vascular resistance but that a mechanism is present which actively limits these pressure changes in resistance when transmural pressure is varied on the venous side.

摘要:
A direct method for studying valvular competence is described based on changes in impedance in the blood induced by injections of concentrated saline. It does not require withdrawal of blood samples and may be repeated at frequent intervals in the same animal. It detected mitral insufficiency in the absence of significant changes in atrial pressure tracings. Mitral insufficiency was observed frequently in association with ventricular arrhythmias, occasionally with atrial arrhythmias and in half of the dogs made acutely hypervolemic.

摘要:
This is a study of the characteristics of the splanchnic nerve supply to the mesenteric vascular circuit. The flow and pressure responses in the dog's superior mesenteric artery to splanchnic nerve stimulation and to intraarterial injections of epinephrine and norepinephrine, before and during various levels of adrenergic blockade, are analyzed. The results suggest that the splanchnic nerve contains only vasoconstrictor fibers, the mediator of which is probably norepinephrine, but that it also contains fibers which induce the release of epinephrine from the adrenal gland. No evidence for the presence of cholinergic dilator fibers was found.

摘要:
Complete inflow stasis of the heart was associated with less central nervous system damage, if the heart was resuscitated with massage. Ventricular fibrillation did not occur during the period of circulatory arrest, but it was seen occasionally after the heart filled. Its incidence was increased by the use of Adrenalin and by allowing the heart to recover without massage. The administration of various doses of heparin had no effect on the Degrees of brain damage resulting from interruption of the circulation.

摘要:
Changes in venous tone produced by partial occlusion of the thoracic inferior vena cava, or of the mitral orifice, have been studied in acute experiments on anesthetized dogs, employing distensibility diagrams obtained from injections into the veins of a loop of intestine to measure venous tone. The results demonstrate a reflex mechanism producing venous dilation in response to venous congestion which is mediated by vagal afferents and inhibition of sympathetic efferents.
