R U L E S AND LIST OF OFFICERS & MEMBERS. CORRECTED TO JANUARY 31, 1917.RULES OF THE FARADAY SOCIETY. I .-NAME AND OBJECTS. The name of the Society shall be (‘The Faraday Society,” and its object to promote the study of Electrochemistry, Electrometallurgy, Chemical Physics, Metallography, and kindred subjects. I I .-CONSTITUTION. (I) The Society shall consist of Members and Students. (2) Members shall be persons over 21 years of age, who are interested in, 01- connected with, any of the sciences mentioned i n Rule I ., and whose admission the Council considers would conduce to the interests of the Society. (3) Students shall be persons who, at the time of election, are serving scientific or technical pupilage, or are studying any of the sciences mentioned in Rule I. at a recognised Scientific or Technical Institution.No person shall remain in the class of Students for more than three years froiii the First of January preceding the date of his election, uiiless at the expiration of the three years he shall not have attained the age of 21 years, in which case he inay reiliain in the class of Students until the 31st of December next following the day on which he attains that age. Students shall not be entitled to vote, I I ELECTION OF MEMBERS. ( I ) Candidates for election shall, except as hereinafter prod vided, be proposed by a Member to whom the Candidate is personally known. ( 2 ) A Candidate for election who is already a mcrriber o!- any one of certain cognate Societies, to be determined from time to time by the Council, may send in an application form signed by himself only, without being proposed by a Member.Persons not residing in the United Kingdom may be accepted by the Council for election under the same conditions :is4 members of the cognate Societies recognized by the Council under this Rule. (3) Applications for adiiiissioii into the Society shall be approved by the Council, and the application forni, duly filled in, shall then be fixed up in a promirient position at the Ordiiiary Meeting next following the Council Meeting at which the application was approved. If no objection is raised by any Member within seven days, by letter to the Secretary, to the admission of the candidate, he shall be considered as duly elected into the Society, and the election shall be announced at the Ordinary Meeting following that at which the application was suspended.The election will date from the 1st of January preceding the announcenient of election. Should any objection be raised to the adniission of a candidate, the election shall take place by ballot at the next Ordinary Meeting, two-thirds of the votes recorded being necessary for election. In no case is the election confirmed unless the candidate shall have paid his entrance fee and first subscription within six weeks of the announcement of his election. (4) The Council shall have the power to ask any Member or Student to withdraw from the Society. If any person so re- quested refuses to withdraw from the Society, the Council may, if it think fit, ask the general body of Members, either at an Ordinary 01- at a Special Meeting, to consider the advisability of removing the name of that person from the Register of the Society.In no case but that of an actual expulsion shall such an incident be recorded in the Minutes of the Society. I V .-- S u 13s CRI PTI OX s . (I) The subscription of each hlember shall be Two Pounds a year, and that of each Student One Pound a year. Sub- scriptions shall be payable in advance on the 1st of January in each year. Any member whose siibscription is three months in ai-rear shall not be entitled to receive the publicatioiis oi the Society until his subscription is paid. Any inember whose subscription is six months in arrear shall, after due notice has been given, and at the discretion of the Council, cease to be a Member of the Society. (2) Any Member may at any time compound for his sub- scription for the current and all future years by the payment of Twenty Pounds.5 (3) Every new Member shall pay an Entrance Fee to the (0) A new Member who at the date of his election is already ;I member of one of the Societies referred to in Rule ILI. Society of One Pound, except : ( b ) A Student transferred to the Class of Members. (4) Students shall not be required to pay an Entrance Fee on admission. V.-COUNCIL.( I ) The Society shall be governed by a Council consisting of a President, the 5 junior Past-Presidents, not less than 3 nor more than 7 Vice-Presiden ts, a Treasurer, 10 Ordinary Members, and, subject to the discretion of the Council, a Secretary.( 2 ) The President shall hold office for one year, and shall be eligible for re-election ; but no person may hold the post of President for more than two consecutive years. He shall be chosen, as far- as possible, from the body of Vice-Presidents, or those who have served as Vice-presidents. The Vice-presidents shall be chosen, as far as possible, from those who have served on the Council. (3) No Vice-President or ordinary hlember of the Council, excepting the Secretary, shall hold ofice for more than three successive years. (4) The Treasurer shall hold office for one year and shall be eligible for re-election. (5) The Secretary shall be elected aimually by the Council and shall be a paid officef, but after election he shall, if the Council think fit, be considered a member of the Council, and be accorded all th-e rights of ordinary Members of the Council during his tenure of the office of Secretary. (6) Two auditors shall be elected annually and shall be eligible for re-election.(7) Vacancies in the Council that may occur during the year of office shall be filled up by the Coiincil. (8) The Council shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting by a majority of full Members, 20 Members forming a quorum. The nominations proposed for election shall be made by the Council and announced at any Ordinary Meeting at least six weeks before the Aiiiiual General Meeting, but the Couiicil shall consider any nominations suggested by Members, and not less than 10 Members shall themselves have the power to make additional nominations within ten days of the aiinounce- rnent of the nominations by the Council,6 (9) The list of names proposed for election, together with a yearly Report on the state of the Society and the yearly Balance Sheet, duly audited, shall be sent to each Member at least three weeks before the Annual General Meeting.(10) Council Meetings shall be held periodically at the dis- cretion of the Council, and shall be presided over by the Presi- dent, 01- by the Senior Vice-President present, or by the Senior Member of the Council, if no Ofticel- be present. Five members of the Council shall forin a quorum. (11) The affairs of the Society and the management of its funds shall be entirely under the control of the Council.V I .-ORDINARY &I EETIKGS. VI I.-ASNUAL GENERAL MEETING. ( I ) The date of the Annual General Meeting shall he an- i-to\iiiced by the Council at least sis weeks before the Meeting, and all notices of motion shall be received by the Secretary at least three weeks before the Meeting. ( 2 ) No alteration of the Rules shall be made except at a Special General Meeting called for that purpose, and no new Rules shall be made, or existing ones altered, without tlie consent of three-fourths of the Members of the Society voting personally or by .letter.
